Hi everyone,

I got offered a contract today to work in the SLP branch in Mapo, does anyone have any experiences they would like to share? It's my first job

The contract is for an afternoon 7.5 hour shift it seems decent compared to some of the contracts that they offer. The teaching minutes add up to about 1600 per month, and then about 1.5 hours prep time per day. Reading through this forum though has made me a bit apprehensive with signing for a company with such a bad rep. Should I pass just because it's SLP? Help Sad

If you take the job we may be working together. It is a 20 minute walk to get to work from our building..I guess they put all the teachers together in a building there. The hours seem really good.. I think...Anyway i may be seeing you there!

Is this S.L.P. located across the street from Jenny's Cafe and a Family Mart, and is a Mr. Kim its owner and is there a black-and-white photo of Kim's daughter at her graduation ceremony from Harvard?

Get a contract review either here or on waygook (or both!)

I had a contract from SLP that looked okay in my new teacher eyes, but aft er a few reviews I found that it was actually pretty bad...From what I understand, many people who are in Korea and have worked for SLP or know people who work for SLP don't have many nice things to say about it.

Maybe too late to help the OP, but for future searchers if this is the SLP across the street from Sogang University, between Sinchon and Daeheung stations, then this is a great school! I worked there in 2012 and regret leaving.

Reasons why this is the best hagwon job you're likely to find:

never any problems with pay
reasonable working hours
job is not stressful or difficult, especially if you have worked in korea before
if you work overtime, they actually pay you extra for it!
(most) coteachers actually care about teaching
coteachers will treat you like a person, not like a pronunciation-box
housing is right in hongdae! seriously a 2 minute walk from the subway
workplace is in sinchon, also a rad area
owners are genuinely decent human beings

obviously it's not perfect, nothing is, and obviously other types of jobs have some different advantages (after school, public, uni, older students, etc) but those jobs are getting harder to find so if chain kindie/elementary hagwons is the kind of job you are going for, this is seriously the best you will find.

I heard SLP stands for Slave Labor Program. Is it true?
