Does anyone have experience with getting health insurance on your own?

Go to the National Health Insurance Office for your district.

Tell them you want to be enrolled in National Health Insurance. They will charge you the premium. You will have to backpay to 3 months after you entered the country.

To maintain it you must pay the premium every month.

personal or with the NHS?

With the NHS there are offices stationed around in every -gu in Seoul where you can register, but I am not sure if any of them employ someone on staff that speaks English well enough to help you.

Yea, I want to enroll in the NHS on my own and not through my employer. The owner decided he doesn't want to give health insurance, but with my working hours I will make more money staying at this job and just paying for it myself in the end.

I've done it. Yes, you go to local NHI office.

www.nhis.or.kr

and you'll need your ARC card, make sure your address on the card is upto date, because they'll send you the bill to that address.

You'll need some money or credit card to pay for the time you were not insured.

Rates vary depending on the person. I pay 86,000 won a month, manager at my goshiwon pays 20,000 won/m. Laughing

Thank you, I appreciate the help! Do you happen to know if time on a D-10 visa still counts if you weren't insured during that time?
