Just transferred to a E2 visa and my Hagwon director just asked for 4 documents for MOE registration:
copy of Alien Card
copy of Passport
Medical Check
Original Diploma

I have been a worker at 2 Hagwons previously and have never needed an original diploma, and actually, I never needed even a copy as my past Hagwons never asked for anything beyond my ID.

I'm assuming this "diploma requirement" is mis-information? Anyway to reduce this burden as my degree isn't even in Korea, and why the heck would I submit an original diploma at any point ($40 for replacement + $70 to Fedex it here).

The MOE will accept an immigration issued copy of the one on file for your E2. (cost you about 3000-5000 won at your local immigration office).

An ORIGINAL has NEVER been a "requirement" and prior to 2010 were an option. Certified (and now apostilled) copies have been the requirement since 2010.

I'm thinking the original is for him. 90% sure! One of my bosses tried that on me, and when I said MOE accepts copies. he said, " I know. But I like to hang on to it, just in case." I found out later, he was known for holding on to degrees and passports.

Some schools also display ALL Native English speakers' original degrees on the wall in the front entry or in the hallway for parents to see. It isn't one of those schools, is it? One of my previous hogwan's operated in this manner.
