The problem isnt that good beer doesnt pair well with Korean food, the problem is that the way to drink good beer doesnt go well with the Korean drinking culture.

No, good beer or wine does not go well with anything. A glass of white wine does not go well with breakfast at Denny's at 2AM. A nice dunkel does not go well spinach tortellini in a light sauce. A shot of tequila does not mix well with my polish sausage at the ballpark. Cognac does not go with nachos at the bar. And I wouldn't drink a Pacifico with sauteed duck and turnips.

Now each of those drinks and each of those foods can be sublime on their own or with other alcoholic beverages (even the Denny's- obviously a screwdriver or Irish coffee), but you can't throw any alcohol and any food and call it a match.

atwood, you truly failed on this one.

What came first? The chicken or the egg?
It's more likely they were trying to make a decent beer but just botched it up or skimped on good processing/ingredients and Koreans liked it anyway, not knowing anything better. That's probably why it's so tasteless and watery; not because consumers demanded it, but to save on costs over quality. Fairly typical thing here.

What you're doing is trying to rationalize the watery swill after the fact as though it was some mastermind plan of theirs. "Oh... yes it's tasteless and watery. We COULD make a better beer with actual flavor and good ingredients, but we just didn't WANT to."

I once heard a Korean guy say Korean companies COULD make better beer, but they don't because they want to sell more soju. Ummm.... right. Gotta save face somehow.

On another thread, someone commented that if making good beer became a like an Olympic event and Koreans had to see their actual worldwide rankings, they'd be making decent beer in no time.

Budweiser has long been the breakfast of champions. You need to get out more.

As for your post, you've once again resorted to the theater of the absurd, Herr G. Denny's doesn't serve alcohol.

And since I didn't specify types of beer or wine, you've spun my words to create your analogies. You're the one who has failed here.

Furthermore, as a Pistons fan, if you're having nachos at the game, you're going to need that cognac and more.

In the case of beer, the adjunct lager style was popularized in South Korea by the American presence. Soldiers demanded a beer similar to Budweiser, and the Korean market duly delivered. Using cheaper ingredients such as rice. maize, and other adjuncts was a main feature of the alcohol made during the prohibition days, and this has stayed due to the cost savings it still brings.

I'd rather have a Guinness meal-in-a-can to wake me up.

That doesn't mean you can't bring it in! I always make sure to pick the finest low-rent vodka to pair with gas station concentrated orange juice that I smuggle into Denny's. Five-O, not as good with OJ as Heaven Hill.

You sir, need to get out more!

If there is one thing that I've learned about sr, it's that he likes Denny's and drinking more than most. That's something to hang your hat on, right?

How about some soju in your Coke Zero with your Big Mac lunch set? A great midday pick-me-up.

But bringing alcohol into Denny's? Decidedly, as my Tallahassee lassee's mom would say, high tack.

Actually, the problem in S.K. = government rules and regulations developed to protect the Hite/OB duopoly. You have to be able to mass produce beer in order to sell it at supermarkets or outside of your own brewery/establishment. I heard Korean beer has really high formaldehyde content, not sure if that plays a role in the weird buzzes or hangovers. It would make sense to use a lot of formaldehyde, since there is no cold storage for beer.

^ Yes absolutely.

Btw, I think im gonna buy budweiser and soju from now on. budweiser is cheap as heck! it tastes slightly fuller than hite/cass, although the black stout is pretty good imo for the price.

I just mixed Budweiser and Soju ( i usually do a 50/50 or a 30/70 beer/soju mix) and i can confirm it tastes rather similar to hite and soju. maybe a little bit wheatier or hoppier whatever that is.
