The health check says they test your vision, including the color-blindness test. Does anyone know if failing the color blindness test is actually something they will deny a person a work visa over...?

I'm red-green color blind, but don't see how seeing some colors a slightly different shade has anything to do with a persons health or ability to teach English...

So I guess I am asking: Is there anyone in this forum who is any type of color blind that was granted OR denied a Korean work visa for teaching English?

Thanks!

(and please, if you aren't color blind, don't bother responding to this question because I could guess at the answer also Wink )

It shouldn't be a problem for you. Last figures (2006) showed that 46% of Koreans suffer from red/green colour blindness.

That's why i'm always extra patient when the traffic lights change colour and the car stays stationary for a good 40 seconds after.......

Lucas: sorry to be a dick but:

1) Only approximately 8% of the worlds male population and 0.5% of the female population is ANY type of color blind (the average is closer to 5% in Asian people). The 46% figure you give to just red-green color blindness in Korea is wildly inaccurate.

2) If you are red-green color blind, you have no problems seeing traffic lights - if you were color blind you would know that.

Which is why I specifically stated in my original question "and please, if you aren't color blind, don't bother responding to this question because I could guess at the answer also"

So, Thanks for your response, but it was entirely unhelpful. Has nothing to do with the immigration question.

Color blindness won't prevent you from working in Korea. Been here for 5 years now.

@spelljunkie. I think Lucas' comment was a little tongue-in-cheek regarding Koreans' approach to traffic matters.

Green means Go.
Red can also mean Go if the way ahead is clear or you are going fast enough; partcularly, if you are a bus driver, taxi driver or a d!ck who drives an Equus.

Wow. Not to be a dick, but I think color blindness will be the least of your problems here.

On the topic of guessing, I guess that isitts' guess is correct,

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaColor blindness, or color vision deficiency, is the inability or decreased ability to see color, or perceive color differences, under normal lighting conditions. Color blindness affects a significant percentage of the population.[1] There is no actual blindness but there is a deficiency of color vision. The most usual cause is a fault in the development of one or more sets of retinal cones that perceive color in light and transmit that information to the optic nerve. This type of color blindness is usually a sex-linked condition. Wow!!! Live and Learn. Color blindness is a STD Shocked

Im red-green colorblind.. they test for it and of course I always fail the test. It will not effect your ability to get a work visa..

It doesn't matter if you wear a green tie or a red tie, just make sure the suit is some shade of shiny silver.

I've been brushing up on my Korean of late and I believe drcrazy is saying "Welcome to Korea, spelljunkie. You'll have no problems here."
