You really are sweet. Too sweet for this racket.
You need thick skin, my friend. This is the norm. People - fellow Canadian teachers or Korean teachers and students will routinely go behind one's back to voice disapproval.
It's the norm. Get used to it. |
Your advice was sounding so good till you dropped some prejudice b.s.. too bad.
OP, how old are your students? Remember you are dealing with kids. I don't know too many kids, that would be too quick to criticize a teacher to their face. Add in the Korean mentality of respect to elders and it's even more so. Do your best to judge the pulse of the students as you have and keep a good line of communication open with your director. They can relay to you the feelings of the parents of these kids. As long as the director knows you care about your performance, and are not just going through the motions to collect a pay check, he/she'll recognize your effort (hopefully). Sounds like you are mostly have initial worry as you are new to teaching. Keep plugging away. Just like any new job, it'll take a little time to get into the swing of things. |
