If you go to the Chosunilbo english edition: this article ranks as the 3rd most popular. I'm happy to see that it's from 2009, because it fails to say "former" first lady. At first, I was thinking similar to the title of this post:

http://english.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2009/10/20/2009102000491.html

Q: Why is an article from 2009 still the 3rd most popularly read at the online edition of this newspaper?

Q: Who is the current first lady? Is there a first man wanna-be?

When her father was the president, she was considered the "First Lady" as her mother was dead.

Mother died early, so really no pressure to marry. So, she probably was a tad too picky with her men and ended up an old single president.

Her father was a ruthless dictator who could make anyone disappear if he chose. Probably many gentlemen callers were reluctant under those circumstances.

I guess that's much more intimidating than a guy with a shotgun... lol

Although he has probably been the most competent Korean leader in the last 300 years.

Military dictators around the world have been competent. Except that they're extremely vulnerable from assassination.

Not that it matters but she's probably one of those ambitious "married to the job" kinds of people. Remember, too, that her mother was assasinated when she was young plus being married in Korea means being #2 in the household. We all know people with sham marriages. Maybe that just wasn't what she wanted to do. Who knows?

According to my Korean friends on different sides of the political spectrum, she isn't too bright.

Is that just because they don't like her? They said the same thing about Reagan and other politicians simply because they didn't agree with their policies. These political figures dared to believe in something different and not follow the political winds and were labelled stupid by those who didn't understand what they were actually doing or trying to accomplish. (Kind of ironic wasn't it?)
