It seems like Korea has begun to really crack down on details for improving their English education system. Their determination to have the finest form of education, for its younger generation, is now in the mist of a complete transformation.
At first, it was setting up standards that aimed at making it difficult for unqualified ESL teachers to be hired for work. Policies such as health checks, criminal record checks, and reference checks all became an important focus. Now the next step is to make sure those foreigners who are qualified, are indeed treated fairly and professionally in the workplace.
A friend of mine, who works at a local Korean newspaper, had asked that I reach out to the foreign community, about the topic of unfair treatment of foreign ESL teachers in Korea, and about how common these types of incidents really are.
All the case studies will have the NAMES CHANGED to protect identities. The important part is to have the adverse stories voiced. This may be the change ESL teachers in Korea have been all waiting for. |

Maybe it is "The Raytown Bugle"
But, his friend can't be Aunt Fran (She done up and died a long time ago). |

Another newbie account with a sense of humor. This is just funny.
"setting up standards" he says.... revisionist history in the making is more like it.
Criminal record checks for foreigners came about as a direct result of the public backlash to the CPN affair.
The foolishness about degree certification came about as a result of KOREANs using fake documents supposedly from western universities and the foreigners paid the price.
NOTHING in the recruitment and retention process of EFL teachers in Korea has EVER been professional.
The whole process from the MOE rules to the parliament arbitrarily making new rules as they go in response to the latest MBC tripe is nothing more than one big joke as is your "friend" trying to justify it then whitewashing it as some kind of "professionalism".
We are not allowed to do things like tell idiots where to go on this forum so I will just let you read between the letters. FiretrUCK - O F F back to your desk in the back corner of the back office of the rag you work for.

Thanks for expressing your interests and contributing your time and effort in this good cause.
I'll be sending you a private message soon.
I am still interested in case studies, where in particular, the agreement in the contract has been violated, or case studies when the individual has been wrongfully dismissed just before the contract had ended.
I was told that one of the main focus was to highlight how companies can take advantage of loop-holes in the Korean Labor Law, such that, even the Ministry of Employment and Labor cannot do much for the protection of foreign ESL teachers. |

Youre not even a native English speaker! How can we be expected to trust you?
It looks to me like youre digging so that someone can prevent 'teachers' from exploiting loopholes (rather than vice versa).
Possibly to stop people working illegally in Korea?

I don't want to say directly that you're a liar, but you said yourself that you work for a newspaper.
It's difficult for me to believe, that someone who made as many mistakes as you did in the previous post, would have claimed to have had professional writing skills when applying for a position/volunteering at a newspaper (unless you wrote it in a hurry and didnt re read it - again, not a mistake that I would perceive a professional/semi professional writer to make).
I mean dont get me wrong, Im not above my station or anything, but its a little patronising to come onto an English teachers forum and expect to try to get away with pretending to be a native English speaker.
(Btw - if your English is just shoddy, I apologise in advance). |

Folks, remember that I, an foreign ESL teacher, am here to compile case studies for the Korean journalist. The journalist is seeking the truth. I also would like to contribute my service for this cause.
So, it's only really helpful when contributing replies are expressed.

If you want to keep up the charade, please don't use too many commas and run it through he grammar checker on MS word first.
