The only people getting mad at the video are the people he is describing. lol too funny.
"I hate Korea, Korea sucks, the food sucks!
But I will sign away a year of my life to go live there!" |
Do you mean this video, the one we were discussing for the past few pages of this thread? Are you defending it?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E65ErC9SKwU |
Yes...my comments OBVIOUSLY reflect that I was talking about that video. |
The video in question, in which a GEPIK elementary school teacher named "Glen Gogo"made a video of two of his male students kissing on a bus, has been made private. It was public for at least 3-4 months and it had the names of the students in the title. So, it's reasonable to assume that the GEPIK teacher realized that he made a mistake by posting the video. Some of you may not realize how easy it is for the anti-teacher netizens to seize on things like this and make all of us look very bad in the eyes of the Korean public. If some of you know teachers who are posting videos of their students tell them to be very cautious about what they post on the internet and get clearance from their school. Be smarter than "Glen Gogo." |

You think people immigrated to America for anything outlined in the Constitution?
LOL.
They came for MONEY and JOBS.
Same reason Americans are now pouring into Asia.
I certainly didn't come to Korea because of its Constitution. LOL! |
Someone doesn't know American history. I wouldn't say Americans are "pouring" into Asia. |

The opportunities were linked to the ideologies. In Ireland and Scotland there was still a strong massive class divide which saw the poor being thrown off the land they had lived on for generations. There were also the famines which were made worse by the rich refusing to help the poor. The landlords of Ireland refused to help the tenant farmers during the famine and often evicted them from the land. In Scotland the landlords were kinder which is why many Scottish immigrants moved to Canada, instead of America, many years later.
America represented an opportunity for the Irish to be free of this system. This freedom was outlined in the Constitution. |
Brilliantly put! The Irish and Scots came to America from a country which to this day (2013) has NO written constitution, and which was pursuing a policy of suppression and even outright genocide against the Irish and Scots. The US Constitution ENABLED the opportunities which those people came for. Similarly, Korea's constitution enables the opportunities we waygooks come here for, whether we know it or not. Try teaching English in North Korea and you'll see the difference. It's a few short miles by car, but a million miles away constitutionally. |
I notice that Waygeek bailed from this thread as soon as someone pointed out how full of shite he was. If that guys Irish I'm the reincarnation of King Sejong. |

A rare feat he accomplished in bringing all of us together on one side. |

| Surely this guy is living proof that Koreans don't care as much about the appearance of their teachers as you all make out. |

Many of the Irish sure did. |
I'm from Ireland, no they didn't. They went over to build stuff and get paid for it.
EDIT: I should elaborate. People went over in droves because there was so much opportunity, not for any ideological reasons. |
Me great great grandpapy came over on de boat in mid 1850's to escape the famine and lack of opportunities. But he chose Canada instead of Me Gook. |

He's wearing more make-up than a French hooker. That's the look that goes over well here. |

My grandfather was a Norwegian fisherman and fur trapper. He sailed the Arctic working then married a pretty Inuit girl. They had 14 kids, one of them being my mom. My other grandparents came on the boat mid-1800s from the Ukraine for a better life. They had a family of 8 boys in Alberta, one of them being my dad.
I love my heritage. It's a really great illustration of what being a Canadian really means. My intermediate students, here and in Canada, love it. It's especially salient because it's so difficult to place my ethnicity by looking at my face. I'm exactly a mix of European and Inuit.
I feel I continue my ancestors' pioneer spirit by living abroad (and doing it well) and teaching children about the beauty and wonders of multiculturalism.
Sorry to derail, this topic is fascinating to me.
The dude in the video of the OP is hilarious. I feel sorry for him. He's a rube and he's not even cute about it. |

I know I'm going to piss off a lot of people.
My parents had a few restaurants in the Jersey shore area. We avoided hiring Americans. Why? It's because they are lazy. Our main staff consisted of girls from Romania. They would work 10 hour shifts with ease. They didn't spend time on their smartphones and they didn't bitch and moan when we asked them to do something. In fact, they were very proactive. Young americans are quite the opposite.
Am I generalizing? Yes I am. Still, there are truths to generalizations. In my experience American people are lazy.
Look at Ivy league schools, Are they filled with students who have German and Irish descent? Nope. Most of the people who attend these highly competitive schools are filled with Jewish and Asian students. Two groups who have an excellent work ethic.

An English teacher talks shit about other English teachers and Dave's users make attacks on his appearance, sexual orientation, voice, etc.
Users on Dave's talk shit about Koreans and if you don't agree with it, you are apologist scum and should be banned from the board. |

No one is harder on English teachers than other English teachers. People here continually rag on other teachers.
This guy is just a pretentious wally. As are you. So you and Glen gogo would probably get on quite well. |
