I did Ical TEFL, but I'm not sure I recommend it. My tutor was great, but I don't believe it was long enough. 5 courses seemed like too short a course, even though the assignments took a long time.
If you do go with them, I recommend Scott as your tutor. |

You'd need an on-site course to qualify for public schools (unless you have a degree majoring in English, Education or Linguistics, according to the EPIK website).
If you're just doing it for your own knowledge/peace of mind, I did the ittt course and found it definitely improved my knowledge of English grammar and helped a bit with lesson planning. Don't really have anything to compare it to. |

Do a CELTA.
It will be internationally recognized and regarded as far more prestigious. |

That's not what I've heard. I've from EPIK themselves that they don't require on-site. Busan does though. |

The notice posted on the EPIK website says that they now need you to have a 100 hour TEFL cert with at least 20 hours of it "in class".
The EXCEPTION are those who already qualify for other reasons for EPIK level 2 (like one year of verifiable teaching experience).

minimum 100 hour TEFL or TESOL certificate as a qualification criteria for level 2 or higher pay grade, regardless of how the course was taken. However, starting from the Fall 2013 term, when we recommend candidates to the POE/MOEs we will give a priority to the applicants possessing a minimum 100 hour TEFL or TESOL with at least a 20 hour offline, in-class component, as opposed to those who only completed a strictly online course. |
EPIK level 2 requires one of:
· Teacher’s license
· TEFL/TESOL or CELTA certificate (100+hours)
· Bachelor’s degree in Education, English* or Linguistics
· Master’s degree in any discipline
· Juris Doctor
· 1 year full time teaching experience with Bachelor’s degree in any discipline
· At least 1 year TaLK Schlolar experience**

EPIK now requires everyone to have a TESL cert regardless of major. 100+ hours. In class not required yet though. (for Bachelors and Masters)
My coordinator told me about this about 2 weeks ago. |

Can anyone recommend an on-line TEFL 100+ hour course that is really cheap? I only plan on staying for another year or so, but I have to get one now as they told me since I got my pay bumped up. |

I imagine all the 100 hour TESOL courses are around the same length. |

Some you can work on faster than others so you can finish within a week or two. |

For some odd reason, I thought Ed was making a joke. As in, all 100 hour courses take about 100 hours to finish. |

Yep, that was the idea.
Never heard someone asking for the quickest one. Cheapest one all the time. Very occasionally the most worthwhile. |
