Is the sentence "My favorite sports is..." grammatical?

I hope this is the right place for this question. If not, please redirect me.

I think it should be "My favorite sports are" or "My favorite sport is". I was asked by an experienced co-worker, causing me to have second thoughts about my answer. So I decided to check. It's seems a simple subject - verb agreement mistake.

I agree with you. Then again, I'm probably not one to be answering these types of questions. I can't see how "My favorite sports is..." could be correct.

I changed my mind.

What about: My favorite sports is the topic of my speech. (?)

I'd say it is grammatically correct. Assuming you have only one favourite. Cool

It is not grammatically correct.

My favorite sport is... - good
My favorite sports are... - good

Try answering this one. What's your favorite fruit? And I mean in a full sentence.

Well done sir. That is a correct sentence. Now, what is your favorite vegetable? Or shall I say 'who'?
