I'm going to be sending some things back to Canada throught Korean post ground mail/surface parcels (slow mail).
Korea post's web sight provides fees only for EMS package fees to Canada (unless I somehow missed it).
I plan on sending 2-20 KG parcels to Canada and I'm guessing that this will cost me about 100 000 won per parcel (total of 200 000 won).
If anyone has sent parcels to Canada and can provide a ball park estimate I really appreciate it.
I also wonder about duty fees. I estimate the cost of what I am sending to be between $1 000 and $1 500 Canadian dollars, which I think should not be a problem.
Any insight/personal experience is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance. |

IF you have been out for more than 1 year then you are entitled to a repatriation allowance of up to $10,000. There ARE some restrictions.
http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/pub/bsf5087-eng.html
Sending packages otherwise means they need to have a valuation of less than $150 per package or they are taxable.
For postal service - Canada is zone 3

(Scroll down to surface mail.)
Sending by surface mail is 53,600k per 20kg box.

(scroll down to the bottom of the page for surface rates)
It takes 3-4 months.
You can only use a #5 (or smaller) box. Buy them at the post office.
IF it won't fit into a #5 box then you can't send it to Canada by surface mail.
Depending on the contents of the boxes there may be duty payable if the proper paperwork is not included. The best option is to label the contents as "used personal effects" with a list of contents.
They will NOT let you ship a "working" computer, monitor or laptop or anything else of "high value". They will let you ship "computer parts" being returned for "repair"

The Korean Post Office is way cheaper than Canada Post. I don't know why but to send the same package from Canada to Korea costs a whole lot more. |
