Is it just me or is there a serious increase in police presence around Seoul? In particular around Itaewon is where I have noticed it the most. And they have been getting stricter. I've ridden a motorbike for 3 years in Korea, and not until the last 3 weeks have I ever been asked for an ID or been stopped by police. In the last 3 weeks I've been stopped 3 times. I wasn't even doing anything wrong.

I"ve also noticed a lot more cops roaming around everywhere I go. Is this basically just a jobs program? Or are they trying to get people to follow rules? I must say I don't particularly like them constantly stopping me. I feel like I'm back in the States and I have to watch over my shoulder to make sure there isn't a cop around while I'm driving.

Are you wearing a helmet? Do you have your bike registered? Are you wearing a seat belt? Ha! Is it that time of the month? No, I don't mean menopause, I mean when the city is trying to get a lot more dosh for its coffers? Honestly, I think it may have sth to do with the plates as they're a lot smaller on bikes(ie. less visible), and they've been trying to ensure scooters and motorcycles are registered unlike in the past, so they may be getting you to pull over not for an ID check, but to check your plates.

The average waygook found here on Dave's:

Complain that Korea isn't checking and enforcing safety regulations in regards to the road.

Complain when they try to check and enforce safety regulations.

Well I've never come on here complaining about safety regulations on the road here. I much prefer driving my bike here compared to back Stateside.

I'm wearing a helmet, my bike has plates, and I wasn't doing anything remotely close to what would facilitate a stop. It's not just me though. I've noticed a heavy police presence lately all over Itaewon and Gangnam. I was just curious if they've implemented some new strategy.

Wow, Korea is no longer the "wild west" it used to be eh?

We used to ride without helmets, registration, we had NOTHING. Cops would wave us on by back in the early 90's

OR, could it be...

Waygook A comes on here and complains about Korea not checking and enforcing safety regulations in regards to the road.

Waygook B complains when they try to check and enforce safety regulations?

Crazy thought, eh?
