On a related note, among the many people who say that they are interested in buying the Clippers, is boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Yeah, I am sure that would set the right tone.

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/story/_/id/10859477/floyd-mayweather-jr-expresses-interest-buying-los-angeles-clippers

"For Mayweather, his own past issues with making racist remarks could prove to be a hurdle, as could his history of legal troubles and his affinity for gambling -- he has been known to often wager six-figure amounts on NBA games.

In 2010, he unleashed a profanity-filled rant in an Internet video against Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, with whom he has not been able to make a deal to fight in what would be boxing's biggest event.

In an approximately 10-minute Ustream video, in which Mayweather also repeated his assertion that Pacquiao used performance-enhancing drugs, he said, in part, "As soon as we come off vacation, we're going to cook that little yellow chump. We ain't worried about that. So they ain't gotta worry about me fighting the midget. Once I kick the midget ass, I don't want you all to jump on my d---. So you all better get on the bandwagon now. ... Once I stomp the midget, I'll make that m-----f----- make me a sushi roll and cook me some rice."

Mayweather went to jail in 2012 for two months after pleading guilty to domestic violence and harassment toward the mother of his children. He was sentenced to 90 days but was released a month early for good behavior."

Mayweather has also made controversial remarks about Jeremy Lin.

25-SEP-2013: David Gilmour two-minutes-hated for literature judgment.

Gilmour didn't suffer any material loss from his "two minute hate" over supposedly sexist comments. The worst that happened was that he got lambasted by some media people(and defended by some others), and some students held a protest against his views. To call this a purge, using a term associated with stalinist mass murder, is over the top.

But hey, here is another recent example from Canada, involving an academic who was basically the ideological godfather of modern Canadian coservativism, and one-time mentor to the current prime minister. Unlike Gilmour, he actually lost about five paying gigs within a few hours of that video going viral.

I notice he's not on the list of "purged" conservatives, even though the compiler of said list apparently follows Canadian news. Innocent oversight, I'm sure.

In some cases the individual is purged successfully, sometimes the leftists fail, sometimes the purpose has other motives (like Tokowitz, who is being purged so that another group can get a good deal on an under-performing franchise in a tier 1 market). Generally, the point is to enforce leftists norms, which are always shifting, and shifting only to the left. It is as it has always been all around the world. In America, the process is speeding up.

Yes, but I notice that, in repsonse to my link, you couldn't even bring yourself to say "Well, that guy in Canada shouldn't have been ostracized for his opinions, either." Which I am going to take as an indication that even you think that some viewpoints render the holder unfit for full inclusion in respectable society.

Also, in telling his gf that she shouldn't bring black players to the game with her, THAT might be the statement that nails him as in some sense he is telling a customer who she may or may not purchase seats for and bring to games based solely on their race, which I think is certainly against league bylaws and probably a civil rights violation.

Telling your girlfriend who has intentionally goaded you to the point of hysterical frustration that your relationship will end if she publicly associates with blacks is in no way similar to denying the sale of tickets to blacks.

Kareem has it (mostly) right.

Well he did say that she couldn't bring blacks to the game with her I think. Since she is not his wife, I think she is by default a customer. Girlfriend, I don't think, enjoys much legal status, at least compared to a spouse.

While it is obviously not the same as a sign on the front door that says "No dogs and blacks", it still is a directive from a business owner to an individual not to bring certain people to the facility with them based on their race.

What a lot of well meaning white liberals don't understand is that blacks will kill you if they have a chance. Try walking through the south side of Chicago... My uncle Larry was killed by a black cab driver and his "friend"
during a robbery that netted them $55.
I think that white people have an "altruistic" gene that allows their cognitave dissonance.
Blacks are an ultra low IQ population- yes above Austral Aborigines (67 vs 62) but why do people pretend that racism is the cause for a dearth of black engineers, aviators, pharmacists, attornets, CPAs etc.
Even UK Carribean blacks and U.S. blacks average only 85 IQ. Even to function in a technologically advanced society requires a collective 94 IQ.
Look at Detroit, MI as your guide. The 83% negro population has regressed to the mean.

I don't see what the big deal is about his comments. I understand it's controversial, but he's basically expecting his girlfriend to act the same way we have to act in Korea. There are cultural pressures and expectations, and some people respond differently to them.

Most people didn't bother examining the conversation. Hearing "The Clippers owner banned blacks from his games!" was enough to whip them into a frenzy.

V. Stiviano is being investigated for allegedly demanding money from Donald Sterling to keep additional audio tapes secret, according to TMZ. Stiviano reportedly claims to have more than 100 hours of further recordings between herself and Sterling; Sterling’s wife Shelly was supposedly contacted by the L.A. County D.A.’s Bureau of Investigation in conjunction with Stiviano’s alleged extortion. Stiviano’s law firm said that they have “no knowledge and therefore no comment” about the investigation.

What the Clippers owner’s love of Koreans reveals about racism in America.

That it's often based on observable data and is interest-driven. That's what it reveals. It's not "Whites are the master race!" it's, "Group X is more likely to trash my apartments, commit crimes, and not pay me my rent." Really it shouldn't even be called racism, it's just pattern recognition. That's what it reveals about "racism" in America.

"Model minority" isn't really a myth. Sure, like all generalizations it doesn't apply to every single individual case, but it's still got predictive power. One can argue about whether it's a function of culture, genetics, or some mix (the answer is "some mix," but that's not important here), but it's still a true generalization.

There is a very small category of East Asian that is eternally pissed off that people have noticed East Asians tend to be functional.

No idea what ghotiy means, but it's Slate, not exactly a bastion of journalism excellence.

As any native speaker of English knows, "ghoti" is pronounced "fish," because English orthography is perfectly sensible.

He prefers Korean tenants. By the gods! Clearly he has never had Koreans as neighbors. Clearly has never lived in one of his buildings peopled by this 'model minority'.

I wonder who he employs to clean the puddles of spit off the stairs.
