Do you have a specific question? I'll be happy to answer to the best of my knowledge.

That's an oddly non-specific question. I have no idea what kind of info you'll be able to pull from my answer.

Service tech for six months.
MWD tech for 1 year.
Office equipment service tech, 18 months.
Office equipment sales, 6 months.

Nothing really, because you didn't mention how much those jobs pay or the necessary preparation/requirements to get into them. Would you say it's not worth it to get into that line of work?

C'mon, man. It's not that bad.

Check out the 2014 better life index:

#1 Australia
#5 Canada
#7 United States
#10 New Zealand
#12 U.K.
#15 Ireland

The U.K. ranked significantly above average, as did other countries we are from.

Is Korea better than the U.K.? Maybe, maybe not, but by some measures, the U.K. is better off (and offers a superior standard of living).

U.K.-

Life satisfaction in the U.K.- 7.2/10; in Korea- 4.2/10.

I went back to the UK for 3 months last year. Yes the hostel was a little expensive at 10 quid a night with a free continental breakfast, and the bus at 1.50 every time I wanted to travel across the country (or even the 4.50 I paid to go to the Netherlands and France) and Tescos sandwiches a right rip off at 99p, but you know what - I loved every minute of it. Cool

Really not (at least I was about the costs...).

I used to hate England when I was younger. Last couple of times I went back, I realized the small things Id overlooked.

There are a lot worse places than England to live, plus its a lot easier to get around Europe than it used to be.

Rough and smooth...

I didn't mention that stuff because you didn't ask. I did ask you to be specific.

Most of the jobs, minus the last, didn't have any kind of requirement at all other than to show up and not be an idiot.

The first job, oilfield service technician, paid $65,000/year starting with full health, company vehicle, and a $40 per diem. It was also on-call 24/7 with an 8 days on/3 days off schedule. The work was mostly outdoors, involved a lot of driving, and was all hours of the day. It was...not worth it.

MWD technician would have been a great job had I been single. The requirements are basically, have a decent working knowledge of computers, plus have a little mechanical aptitude. The pay was something on the order of $100k+/year depending on how many days you worked. The schedule was 12 hour shifts from the time a rig started drilling until it finished. Typically 25-30 days in a row. Then you'd typically have about 2 weeks off. It was an indoor job 95% of the time, and the remaining 5% of the time was up on the extremely dangerous rig floor.

Was this job "worth it"? If you weren't interested in being a decent husband/father, yes.

Office equipment tech. A basic 40 hour/week job. The pay was so hideously bad that I won't mention it. The only reason I was able to take this job and survive was that I had outside income. Requirements...none really.

Office equipment sales. Salaried job which I got on the basis of being a tech. Pay is commission. This is the position that I'll be making a (hopefully lucrative) career of.
