So I know that everyone has to teach with a degree however it doesn't matter what subject your degree is in correct?

Does it matter what grade of degree you pass with?

for example

70%+ is first degree honors
60-70% is 2:1 degree
50-60% 2:2 degree
40-50% is third degree honors.

what do you have a degree in may i ask? and what did you pass with?
did you find there was much competition due to your degree or that you was favored for your degree?

Thank you ^.^ ~~

Honors, shmoners, 1st, 2nd, 3rd... who cares... nobody in the real world (nobody outside of the UK system can understand the difference anyway).

Either you have a degree or your don't.

If you have one, nobody cares what your grades were as long as you graduated and have the parchment. You have a degree.

If they don't have the parchment that says, "Bachelor of _____" then nobody cares what the grades were since they (or you it seems) don't have a degree.

Can you actually fail (40-60%) and still get a parchment in the UK?

Back where I come from, if you can't make a 70% average on your upper division subjects (20 courses) you can't graduate.

<50% is an outright fail and you get kicked out.

A 50-60% average gets you placed on academic probation for a term and if you don't improve (over 65%) you get kicked out.

.

Ohh.. i thought it matters on what grade of degree you pass with aswell.. shows im a bit Dim.
i think the UK are too hard up on how high you pass.. if you don't get a 2:1 they usually say you should just give up. you'll never get a job. I guess it depends on the individuals capabilities?

I dont think it matters (ie - no-one will care).

Anyway, universities have different ways of grading students around the globe.

They say that to make you work harder because it makes the university look good if they get a high pass rate.

Id guesstimate they really dont give a hoot either (re;-English schools abroad).

Its more along the job front, In the UK if you don't (usually) have a 2:1 you wont get a decent job in your field :/

An education degree with credential is what you should have in this line of work. Your grade shouldn't matter unless you're teaching at university.

Wow! If I were allowed to graduate with failing grade, I could've partied more. Razz

And to touch on your other questions....
no, it doesn't matter what the degree is in... the degree is a visa requirement.
largely, in EFL, employers don't care as long as you can get a visa.

Grades typically don't matter as long as you have a degree (but then in most countries you actually have to pass to get your degree. 40% doesn't cut it.

Typically in the 80%+ range for my undergrad degrees. I have 3.
BA, B.Sc. B.Com.

Post grad my marks were in the 90-95% range. I now have 5 post grad credentials in total: MBA, MA, M.Ed, PhD(ABD), PhD.

No. The degree didn't make any difference other than gaining an interview.
Actually, having too much in your resume is not a good thing. I usually only had 1 undergrad listed on my resume when I applied for jobs in the past (don't want to scare employers away).

It is what you do AFTER you get in the door that makes a difference in what you do and where you end up.

HA!! true we are awesome.. Razz I think that is why so many foreign students come here because then they get more for their work. i.e they may get 70% (this is hypothetical as im not sure on other countries) this is the highest grade equivalent to A or Distinction where it might only be a C or Pass in their own country.
