A witness said many passengers ignored an onboard announcement telling them to stay inside and forced the doors open, escaping on to the tracks.

I wonder why.

Because Koreans can't swim but can run. Seriously, Koreans drown on wet grass. Laughing

Shocked ...really? You made that joke?

Why not? I can't resist making remarks in bad taste. Laughing

Many years ago, a corporal said to me: "You're a heat seeker and that's why you'll never be promoted." He was right, took me many many years for me to get promoted because I could never keep my gobby closed. Laughing

I wonder if some were aware of the 2003 Daegu Subway Fire that killed 198. During the fire the doors opened briefly then shut again.

Does anybody know anything else about the Daegu Subway accident in 2003. It said that two train conductors were arrested for what happened, but I was under the impression that only one of them jump ship and bailed leaving passengers stranded inside a locked train. Why was the other one arrested?

No but they're saying a possible cause of the line 2 collision was that the safety system had been switched off. It appears the system is old and often malfunctions so the drivers just turn it off.

I guess fixing it was just too much trouble.

It was reported a few days ago that the warning system (the lights in the tunnel that signal green, yellow, or red in relation to the train in front) had been upgraded a week or two before the accident.

However it was said there were some "glitches" in the upgrade, but since there had not been an issue during that time, the "glitches" were ignored or otherwise put on a back burner.

In the incident, the train that hit another should have seen yellow and red lights in the tunnel prior to getting to the station where the incident happened. However, because of the glitch, the driver saw green, another green, and then finally red..by which time seeing the red light and activating the emergency brake was too late. Although slowing the train from 60kph down to 15kph at the time of the collision, it wasnt enough time to completely avoid the accident.
