For international transfers, you will be either be charged a transfer fee from your bank, an incoming transfer fee from the receiving bank, or both. Also, some banks use an intermediary (middle man) so you may be charged for that as well.

Each bank has different exchange rates, but I would recommend KEB, since they are more foreigner friendly.

If you don't want to do a wire transfer, you can always send a bank check, but it takes much longer and in the long run, you really don't save that much. In my opinion, it's not worth the hassle. I've done bank checks before, and I wished I just went through the hassle of setting up a remittance account. You will also get a better exchange rate through remittance, at least by my experience.

Thank you very much for your response. I'm not great on my banks and understanding transferring so this has helped me a lot. I was just unsure about the savings of it but if you don't think it is worth it i will look down a different route. I don't eat much, I don't shop too much and i like to be cold hahaha so i tend to have a bit of money spare. the only thing i live off is coffee.. i will look into remittance. ^.^

Don't know what the prices of coffee are back where you are from but they are about double the price as they are in Canada so it might run your wallet a little bit. If you are worried about getting charged for wiring money I would say the cheapest thing to do is make some friends from the country you are from and exchange money with them. Give them your Korean won in cash and have them transfer an equivalent amount from their UK bank to your UK bank. If internet banking is anything like what it is in Canada then it should only cost like $1 to transfer money between banks in the same country. You avoid all exchange rate issues this way. People to knew to the country are especially looking for extra Korean cash to hold them off until the get their first decent pay check.

Thank you for the advise.

For a decent cup of coffee i.e a Venti Latte im look at about £3 so about $5. Im assuming it is more? hehe transferring money here in the UK there is no charge, that is why i was shocked that there is a charge to transfer. ill keep a look out and speak to some people ^.^ hopefully they wont object to it.

My only other option could be to open another account and put my spare into it, and when my contract end, close the account and transfer the money as 1 big lump sum? or does that sound a bit too much?

Yup. Def a troll. Supposedly knows nothing about Korea yet knows how to do the Korean "face."

Shh! Hokie, we knew this all along but we wanted to play with her a bit. By the way, the next time I'm in Suwon, I'll buy the first round.

Don't worry so much about the banking fees. You'll offset any bank related expenses by saving money by avoiding expensive punctuation marks.

Erm... When you say Korean face? You mean emotions? Maybe the fact I'm part Asian can have something to do with it? Not to mention I have a lot of Asian friends. So am I still a troll? I'm not smart just lucky sometimes.

Do you have a job lined up yet? If you are simply researching right now, not saying that you are, but on the off chance you are, then the questions you are asking are a bit like putting the horse before the proverbial cart. People are responding to you in the fashion they are, because many people join and begin posting just to stir up discussion or trouble, in which ever order they choose.

You seem sensible enough, and no one is trying to push you away, but your questions seem a bit odd for most of those folks who have been on the forums for a while. If you have landed a job and are trying to get things clear in your mind, then people will gladly answer your questions, but you should also take some time to use the search function of this forum to look for threads containing the answers to the questions you might have BEFORE posting them again. Just some advice and no offense intended. Cheers Cool

The truth is not officially. i have been offered 2 jobs, one of which by my friends mum, she is the headmistress at a hagwon. as soon as she knew i was looking my friend skyped and she wanted an interview so... the only issue is that because its through a friend there wasn't much information passed on, it was Hello Jessie Blah blah blah... but she wants me to come and either live with them or the other one is one done off my own back. im just curious and not trying to start arguments i just want honest answer, 'fresh' answers.

Fair enough, then with the information you just posted it should let people know you are more serious than just asking a ton of questions that you could easily find the answers to through the search engine on the forums. Don't let some of the comments dissuade you, the people who post frequently and have knowledge of different things will pipe in on occasion to give you pieces of the puzzle you are putting together.

It takes time, so my advice is to read up on some of the concerns you have in threads that have long ago stopped being popular, but are still accessible if you search for them. You will find that life in metropolitan areas of the country is vastly different than rural living situations, so be aware that when you ask questions you need to give a hint of where you might be located, and that will clue others in to whether or not they can be any help to you. Like I said before, cheers and I hope things work out for you. Cool

I am a bit too trusting when it comes to things being sorted for me (my friends mum) i dont mind the location, i currently live in the country(rural) of the UK but i love the city and can adapt to anything. Its more the experience and enjoying every opportunity.
I will look up some other posts i have queries about too. Thank you again! Very Happy
