I would be interested to hear what other people have paid to get this done. I have been treated over the past couple of weeks for a root canal. So far I have paid around 70,000 for treatment but the gold crown will cost me 450,000 won.
I wonder if I am being overcharged?

That sounds about right for a root canal. Gold prices do fluctuate.

The other point is: you're spending a measly $500 and you're worried about getting over charged? Laughing

Try $61,000/year at Duke University majoring Women's Studies. That's OVERCHARGING. Laughing

I am tight. I will admit it. Anyway, I'm going to need that tooth for a while so I guess it works out in the end.

That sounds exactly the same as what I paid for the root canals/crowns I've received here, with insurance.

Cool. Just checking with others. I had a root canal a few years ago and I can't remember how much it cost.
For the record, I have found dentists here to be thorough and professional. I was given a shot the first couple of times but after the nerve is removed I don't think there is any need.
Tbh, I have quite a high pain threshold so I would rather not get the shot unless absolutely necessary. Any pain is a quick jolt rather than prolonged agony. I can handle that if it means I won't be drooling for the next 3 hours!

ah yes my apologies. it covers only scaling and xrays but nothing important like fillings, root canals, etc.

It partially covers fillings. It depends on what type of fillings you get. Fillings in general are really cheap here anyway. If you were getting regular white fillings then it might cost you 15,000 won for the whole procedure without insurance and maybe 7000-10,000 with insurance.

I'm not sure how much of the root canal procedure it includes but it does cover part of it. I think that it's not much though. It covers nothing for the crown.

A couple of years ago, I had 7 root canals and 8 crowns done by Dr. Choi and associates in Itaewon (don't ask why...). The national insurance covered most of the actual root canal cost, so it only cost me 30 000 won a molar. The real expense came in the post and core build-up, (about 250 000W) and the crowns (back teeth gold = 800 000W) and porcelain for the others. (900 000W). Each tooth took 5 visits from start (root canal) to finish (final crown). He does really good careful work and it was painless. After a while, I felt like I could do it myself. Smile

He's in the Volvo Building where the old Hannam supermarket used to be. Can't recommend him enough.
