I just found out about this calling app from one of my korean friends who recommended it to me. I'm pretty sure many teachers or foreigners in Korea would find this useful. The app basically lets you call any phone using Voip except the receiver doesnt need the app. You can also top up prepaid phones (which is what I use it for) from the app itself. The rates are pretty damn good considering they dont charge any connection fees.
They are having a 1+1 promotion right now for new users where if you buy $50 bucks worth of credits, you get another 50 free. That's $100 you can top up your prepaid phone here with for only 50 bucks (u only get bonus once though) which is absolutely a good deal. I highly recommend this to foreigners who have a shitty prepaid phone. Have a friend download the app and take advantage of the promotion and give him/her money to top up your phone with for double. Anyways, this site gave me way too much help over the years and though i'd pay everyone else back.
App: Global Call
Download: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lguplus.GCAClient
https://itunes.apple.com/cn/app/global-call-landline-mobile/id577717588?l=en&mt=8
1+1 Promotion Page www.globalcall-1plus1.com
Visit the promotion page first before you install the app and read up on it so you dont make any mistakes. They only give you the bonus once. |

Why would anyone use this?
1. Skype is free (or cheaper if using it to call landlines/mobiles)
2. Korean calling plans start out at less than 20$ a month
3. Requires an internet connection and a smart phone
Just seems like a terrible idea to me |

1. Skype is not free. The PC version is free. This is for calling phones and landlines phones. Skype rates have connection fees 8.9 cents for almost every country and it adds up a lot for short calls. I've done the math and this app seems way cheaper for me plus they seem to offer a lot of bonuses.
2. I don't want a plan. Pay as you go is much more my style.
3. All voip apps require an internet connection. I have a smart phone but ppl I need to call do not.
It might seem like a terrible idea to you, but personally, im the type that researches things extensively before I use it as with this app, and everything else I own. Just because a Skype is the most popular doesnt mean its the best for everyone. Usually its the unpopular brands that seem to offer more to get customers. |

53 won per connection.
25 won per minute to most counties in the world
Less than half the price of your service calling cell phones, still less than calling landlines as well.
Home work indeed |

The countries I need to call, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia regarding landlines, it is much more expensive. Like I said, I've done the math. And besides, its not like I've never used Skype before. I used to use it, then switched to Rebtel, then switched to GC. |

You should probably put that in the OP then.
Most people are not regularly calling those countries and use their minutes (generally) in Korea and calling home (US, Canada, Australia, NZ, England, etc) all of which are cheaper with skype. |

If you calculate the amount you can get from this bonus, 100$ for $50, it is still waaaay cheaper calling to those countries as well than skype. |
