We worked with a realtor to buy our first and second apt in Busan when we lived there.
We worked with a realtor to buy an apt in Busan a couple of years ago.
Each time it went fairly well but we did our homework. |

Just a total pain in the ass especially for people wanting to relocate multiple times a year. I guess part of it is because the people who own apartments/villas are old and not tech savy. They don't know how to advertise, especially on the internet. Don't get me started on the whole Key Money thing. Thank you, this has been therapeutic. |
There are apartment posted on expat sites and craigslist which I have used in the past and not paid more than a couple hundred bucks for paper work.
What's your gripe with key money? I think it's a great option for keeping rent down.
I think the problem is that you are financially in a place where you think W10million is a lot of money. I've been there. Once you get through that transitional financial stage, you'll wonder why you got so worked up over the realtor fees. |

My biggest gripe is similar to one another poster put up, that being the agent wanting to show us whatever they have as opposed to something we want.
We get it every time we look. We want a 3 bedroom, at least 35 p'young but bigger is OK. We give them a budget range knowing full well that it could run us more. NOT an apartment, but a unit in a building ON THE TOP FLOOR WITH DIRECT ROOF ACCESS. Then it begins. Ah, you are just a couple, so you don't NEED a 3 bedroom that big. I have some great TWO bedrooms perfect for a couple. Blah, blah, blah...
I've gotten to the point where I'm VERY straight forward going in. I have a list in writing with what we want, and tell them that if they show me anything different and waste my time, we're through doing business with them.
Getting tougher and tougher to get full on chunsae these days. Major bummer. |

We kept saying that. I only said "two bedroom apartment" in the post above because I was interpreting from Korean. My wife is Korean, so the problem was not the result of a language barrier; the realtors just kept showing us what they wanted us to rent, not what we asked for. |
