I am often asked if i am Asian or spoken to in a foreign tongue (usually Korean, Japanese or Chinese) i am part Asian but no half. and i don't look it at all ( i don't think) i have happy eyes and a small nose. i naturally have very very dark hair but blue eyes and freckles. im confused how they can tell i am from a glance even though its not obvious and my history isn't full one parent :/ |

I've had a woman as me if I was Spanish, another man ask if I was Italian, number of cases where I was assumed to be American, etc.
Lots of minor things over the last ~2 years that never really bothered me, however recently there was an interaction that really amazed me with the social retardation present.
Recently, a man in maybe his mid-40's asked me where I was from, and told I him Canada. His response? No. Honestly, he tried to correct me about my nationality. He insisted I was from Turkey or Iran. I couldn't believe how obnoxious and rude someone could be to a stranger.
(For the record my parents immigrated to Canada from Greece) |

Funny. I got asked by Korean dudes if I was German on a few occasions. Just random strangers asking "독일 사람?" Dunno why. I can barely speak 3 words of German. |

People used to compliment my gfs Korean. She is Korean. She spent many years in Japan. Maybe she speaks with an accent or something. |
Same thing with my Korean GF, and she did not like it one bit. But it was not due to her accent but more about her exotic beauty. |

I get Russian even from the Russian speaking folks in Busan. I have blue eyes, brown hair and freckles. Weird. |
I had a co-worker in Busan that would be mistaken for Russian as well, not so much from other Russians, but definitely from Koreans. Maybe it was wishful thinking, because as you probably know, there is a section in Busan where many Russian women work in "houses of ill repute", if you catch my drift. My friend was Irish, by the way, blond and beautiful, and had her stuff together as much as any one I have ever met. She just laughed it off. |

Sorry, I meant they thought she was a different race, due to her looks. She was also somewhat of a free spirit in her fashion sense, relatively speaking for Korean women. Maybe that had something to do with it as well. |

No surgery. Hard to explain, but I think it was a combination of things - her facial structure, her fashion sense, and maybe the fact that she would mostly hang out with westerners(because that is when it seemed to happen most). |

While most can't tell whether I'm Canadian or American. I do have relatives on both sides of the border, a few Koreans not many told me that Americans are blond and Canadians have dark hair.
That's a messed up steriotype if I ever heard one, though I do have light eyes which the kids friek out over. (I'm dark haired.)
Had a few kids act disappointed at one school a few years ago because I didn't have blond hiar and wasn't 6'5". Quite the steriotype. Must have been from the Korean war where the older folks were prob 5'2" and we at 5'8" or 5'9" (in those days) were considered giants.

I am half Puerto Rican and Black but born and raised in the states. I have medium olive skin and straight black hair. Absolutely nobody can ever guess my ethnicity or race correctly in the US as well as here. But in Korea I mostly get Filipino or Indian. When I tell Koreans I'm half black they always say "No no your skin is not dark. You're not black." whatevs |

When I put on my Vulcan Star Trek gear they incorrectly identified me as an elf. And when I LARPd as a halfling fighter-thief those fools thought I was a hobbit. |

I often get mistaken for a person from a race of people called the 'waygookin-ee-da' whos culture is 'the west'.
Apparently that means every single culture in the entire world that speaks English and are identical people. |
