|
|
Do your hakwons allow you to use your air con when you need it? I've been here for years and never had any issues with using it in my many public schools when I needed it. But a year or so ago, there starting being some resistance and many other businesses and public buildings started not using it or barely using it. I could still get it on in some of my schools after really complaining about it. But, it seems this year, they're really being a holes about it and stubbornly digging in their heels about it. So, I just wanted to know if it's a public school things and you hakwon workers still have the freedom to turn that bad boy on. Some of the afternoons on the upper floors start getting hot. I'd turn it on now in the afternoons if I had my way.
But, I'd quit the public school and switch before going home for good if there's more freedom. Eff these people are stupid! The old geysers love the heat. You see them wearing coats when the rest of us are wearing shorts and a t shirt. They selfishly assume that everyone else loves the heat. Bunch of eff tards!!
On the bright side, those with xenophobic views ought to be delighted as they've finally found a way to drive us out. I doubt folks will stay in Korea for years with this BS! How about the Chinese, do they let you use the air con or are they idiots too in this regard?
(I may go back home or may move on. Hard to say.) |

They believe the air con's air is bad for you and will make you sick. If I worked in a public school, I couldn't stand it. I would pouring out sweat all day. Thank goodness my hagwon has personal air cons in all the classrooms and your own personal thermostat. I never have to ask for the remo con! |

...and heat stoke and heat headaches aren't bad for you? Anyways, I may switch to a hakwon if this crap keeps up. A shame, many folks in my school itslef are nice. Just can't take this place in summer. I survived until now because I could get access to air con. But now they've done some kind of about face and it's so stupif when even the kids are asking for it. You always have to do what you're ajossi says. Dum@$$ place this is. |

It's May now - it may be 500C but it's May, come mid june I'm sure they'll let you have the AC on. Maybe only between 12-2 or something like that, but I'm sure they'll let you have it on at some point.
You're helping save the environment. |

I turn it off on purpose.
First, i believe it is character building to get used to actual, real, environmental conditions that exist in the world.
Second, the air con gives me a dry throat - making it harder to shout at the top of my voice in the preferred style.
Third, it makes the students sluggish and tired - which again makes my life easier for a few months of the year.
long live humidity! |

The aircon air being bad for you is just what I've heard. My students though don't care and always beg me to turn on thw aircon even when it is only 22C. The humidity kills me and that's why I hate rainy season. When it rains everyone just opens their doors and they shut off the aircon. Then I'm sitting there sweating like a @#~@ in church. |

Define "they"...
Air conditioning has been restricted the past few summers to prevent energy blackouts. No other reason. |

My hagwon has no issues with air con being on for as long as you like, at whatever temperature you like. In the winter I have the heat blasting, today, because my classroom's on the 6th floor and turns into an oven from 2pm, I've had the air con on for the last couple of hours. If I can get by with just opening the window, I do, but when it's too hot the air con's straight on.
My biggest problem is when half the class are crying 'teacher, hot', while the other half are crying 'teacher, cold'! |

"They" meaning other Korean people that have told me this. Yes, the energy thing is a good reason for not using the air con, but that is not the only reason. I have been told that the air con air is bad for you from older Koreans 50+ and even my wife and her age group. Let's not deal in absolutes here by saying "No other reason." |

To prevent blackouts, and it's expensive to pay for the A/C blasting in 30 classrooms all day long. Public schools have budgets they try to stick to, and A/C is an easy place to save money on. |

My public school turned on its aircon this afternoon. Hot early this year but I didnt think it was really needed.
Public schools as public buildings are under govt restraints to not overuse energy, which strikes me as reasonable. Nothing to do with voodoo fears that may have existed in the past. |

Private schools love to use the air conditioner.
It's freezing cold in my school. I'm not much of an air condition type person.
It's been on for about two weeks, so I'm sure it'll be on all summer long FULL BLAST. I open the window during breaks to let in some warmth!
I bring a denim jacket and a light weight sweater to shield me from the winter blast!
If even one student says they're hot, it gets cranked even higher.
After all, the boss wouldn't want a child to go home and tell their parents how uncomfortable it is to learn.
So, if you're bent on needing air-yeah, switch to private school. |
