I was planning on taking my 8 year old son to Jeju. I'll be travelling from Seoul. I was thinking a package deal might be best. Has anyone any advice on a cheap holiday to Jeju that'd be fun for a kid?

Your gratefully,

Brian

Package tour + cheap + Jeju = hoards of Koreans/noise/ramen vomit.

Why not but a couple of palm trees and put them in your apt. Similar effect and then you have something to show for your money!

Or fly to japan/philippines

You don't need a package deal, just pick a cheap weekend, fly out, get a hotel at one of the popular beaches and fly back. Can get round trip tickets at a non-holiday time for under 100$.

With that said, AVOID any weekend/week that is a korean holiday in the summer months. It is a mess. Instead try for early fall or late spring (too late for this year) when Koreans consider the beach season to be over but its still blazing hot, at least in my opinion.

If the package deal involves a guided tour, you really don't want to go on it. They basically drive you from one place to another and throwing sales pitches at you to buy corny stuff.

Weekdays are cheaper than weekends at many places. Hotels tend to be expensive (last I heard 350 a night). Pensions are much cheaper to rent.

Taking a ferry to Jeju has never been cheaper or safer at this time.

There is a bus from the airport that goes to Seogwipo and runs a long course to all the major hotels and many pensions and condos all the way to the KAL hotel. You can rent a car pretty cheap there too and pick it up and drop it off right at the airport. Personally I like Seogwipo most.

You have an 8 year old boy? Take him to Jungmoon beach. It's free fun near the big hotels in Seogwipo. It's in my opinion the nicest beach on Jeju and your boy will love it. It's not crowded now. Bring a frisbee. Sometimes big waves come in there. The undertow can be a little strong there sometimes so keep an eye on your boy.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to give me some pointers. I actually thought about a japan trip, but thought jeju would be cheaper and more time could be spent outdoors, beach etc...

Thanks again : )

Agreed. Seogwipo is utterly fantastic. In the off-season it's the closest you will ever get in Korea to be in true, pure quiet. At one point, our taxi stopped and I looked over at my girlfriend and was like "you hear that? Nothing...not even wind."

For a kid, especially coming from the city, there's tons of animals, plants, weird Jeju nature to just play in. Then there's beaches and whatnot. Food is basically delicious no matter where you go.

In Pyeon-son ri there is a nice love motel across from the beach. It's called Beach-i Motel. It's maybe 60K a night now (it's been a few years ago since I went). And there's a folk village in town.
