Hi everyone. I just received an e-mail regarding a GNB academy position in Gwanak Korea. I was wanting to know your thoughts on the school franchise, area, and any other helpful details.

I am apparently going to be the only foreign teacher there. This is my first time teaching English abroad so I am slightly skeptical of this. I have been told that we work with other GNB franchises nearby and I would be able to meet the foreign teacher there too.

Great school, great location. It sounds like a great deal. I'd jump on it if I were you. No reason to look into things, give specifics or do any more research--you're set, my friend. Go, go, go and don't look back!

The best person to get this information from is the foreign teacher you're replacing, so I would ask for their contact information. They can give you the specific details on the school, area, accommodation, etc. It would also be a good idea to find out if they completed their contract or are leaving early, and if there's any concerning reason they're not staying another year etc.

I would imagine being the only foreign teacher, especially for your first time in Korea, could be a bit lonely. Although they say you'll meet teachers from the other franchises, you do spend a large portion of your time here at work, so working with other foreigners can be helpful in many ways.

GnB is a more recognized franchise operation in Korea. The place you have been accepted to work at could be good or bad. The history of these types of place can be found out by doing a simple search. Usually a place with a bad or good reputation has a way of popping up on the Internet through blogs, etc., and places like Dave's. You will have to do your own research, then decide if it is the best place for you or not. Getting opinions from people here will give plenty of people the opportunity to throw out their opinion, but the homework is something you have to do in order to find out the information you are seeking. There is still no guarantee if a place comes with glowing remarks about how great it is that you will not experience just the opposite when you work for someone. It can be the luck of the draw regardfing your decision to work at a certain place. Good luck.
