|
|
So I have one job offer (not impressed with the salary of 2.2 for 9:30-6:30 day) but I do like a lot of things about the job/location.
However I am also waiting to hear back from two other places that I interviewed with around the same time.
How long is typical to keep a school waiting before you decide on a contract? I don't want to come off as rude or ungrateful for the offer, but yes I really would like to see if one of these other offers comes in.
Is it rude to let recruiters know you are waiting to hear back on other interviews--I feel it is better to be honest but dont want to piss anyone off unnecessarily.
Thanks--this is my first rodeo and I appreciate any input |

Being on a summer hiring cycle may give you a bit more time to wait and see, but it will soon be cutting it close regarding all the particulars. The August hires are all usually done by the end of June to the middle of July, for some fairly obvious reasons. There is no guarantee on timing, but you probably would be safe waiting for a short period longer, say 1 -2 weeks at most IMO. The job selection is going to narrow down quickly once the regular hiring period comes closer towards its end. Good luck! |

Don't tell them that you're waiting on other offers. They'll suspect it but don't state it. There is no time limit for how long you can sit on the offer. BUT... remember that with each passing hour, the recruiters are that much closer to receiving a resume that they like better or that the school will receive an candidate from another recruiter. So it's not so much a problem of being rude to the recruiter (they are generally the scum of the earth anyway) but rather a problem of them giving the job to someone else.
To be safe, I would say that you're going to take the job and that you're going to the courier office tomorrow morning. Then come up with an excuse of why you couldn't send them that day. If you really want an extra day then on the following day just say you sent the docs (but actually wait until the next day to really send them). But don't push it much longer than that. In any case, the other recruiters that you're waiting on will have told you by then if you got the job. They don't usually wait around too long (fear of another agency beating them to the contract).
If you DO get a great offer after you've send the documents, then just tell the recruiter that something has come up and you won't be going to Korea for another 5 months. They won't have received the documents for a couple of days and after that it takes the school a day or two (at least) to get off their butts and apply for a visa issuance number. If they know you're not coming they'll be p!$$ed but they won't waste their time and money apply for the VIN. In this case, you just use your back up set of docs to apply to the good job. |

Oh no backup documents! I only have one of everything, I regret not getting two copies of the CBC.
Two of the summer camps that I interviewed with said they would be making decisions in 1-2 weeks which is throwing a wrench in timing.
I guess I'm afraid if I dont act quickly on this 6month contract (there arent any other 6-months to choose from at this time)and I lose it---then worried if I don't get any of the summer jobs.....OH What IF!! haha Its all about chances. I just didn't want to jump into a one-year contract without sticking a toe in the waters. |

^ Not correct. ^
... 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 13 months, 2 years ... all are fine.
Immigration will issue E2 visas for any length of time up to and including 2 years. |
