Hello, welcome to Daves ESL Korean forum. From my experience having read postings on this site for the past.. ten years now (I only recently joined, thanks for the warm welcome), I would say that a lot posters come here to either A. "start stuff," or B. belittle posters who have something fair and legitimate to say, or belittle posters who ask innocent questions and end up ridiculed or even insulted. |
You managed to accomplish all three on the first page of your thread. Good job, and congratulations for the trifecta. |

Said all I have to say about my position on appreciation/interest of Korea and Korean culture. Admittedly it has it's issues. I never said everything about Korea and all Koreans is perfect, yet I was inadvertently accused of doing so, and labelled a racist. I was also called out for "having a chip on my shoulder" by someone who feels some sense of entitlement in having worked for Korean companies and been here for over ten years, as if his experience means anything outside of Korea to begin with. It was then mentioned that due to my location, Korea (as bad as it is) seems good because where I am is so much worse (when the person who made that comment has probably never been to the Middle East).
Said all I have to say. There are some ridiculously cold hearted and inflexibly negative posters on here. Calling out the negative aspects of Korean culture without looking at the positives, which is what I had originally loosely posted about, the positives of Korean culture, and nobody seemed to come to the defense of the culture when the negative aspects are called out. That to me is "pathetic" as the Alpha poster likes to say, like anything that doesn't "jive" with him is pathetic. I have no chip on my shoulder. It's a wonderful day where I am. I love my life and I can't wait to come back to Korea this summer to see friends and visit my old stomping grounds. I really can't. If that doesn't jive with anyone else on here, it makes no difference to me. |
Now, now, man. Don't even try that. This was not a happy post about the good things about Korea. Mix1, a few posts above this reply, posted a fine list of the things he likes. Notice how no one attacked him? No one jumped on him?
YOUR post was bait. It was a call out. A poke at any who complain. Anyone looking at the second paragraph of your OP will see that. |

Scratch that. Zackback was funnier than you and better at being over the top. He at least would have his iconic themes in his posts. |

Nah, it's just one of SRs go to schticks when he has taken a beating on his usual. "Look guys, I call out apologist idiots. Do you notice when I do that? "We" aren't so different after all, right?" |

Dudes, there's apologists and bashers, and then there's posters like Zackback or Dodge7. If bashers go after them I don't say its some schtick where they say "Look guys, I call out basher idiots. Do you notice when I do that? "We" aren't so different after all, right?" |

Apparently (according to the metal head who called me a racist), you were defending child murderers, or something of that nature. There is so much negativity on this board. I'll tell you guys what. Since there is so negativity here, I'll take you guys out for golbengi, fried chicken and beer when I come to Seoul. You can tell me all about your strifes in person. |

Going to go out on a limb here, but I think snails with crappy Hite beer might not be the best choice for a diplomatic dinner. Skip your food bribes and just get some whiskey. And drink it like a man. |

What would you prefer? Western Restaurant in Itaewon? A lot of Koreans like Golbengi, Beer, and Fried Chicken. Don't you like the food in Korea? |

I meant if you wanted to reach out to NETs on Dave's. Snails and Shite aren't the way to get things done. Best to just state your business and serve real booze and no one needs to mess around with any "be nice to me with food' nonsense. We can make our own arrangements. Just get the whiskey- and good whiskey. Maybe gin and tonics. You order a bottle of Ballantine's/Imperial/Scotch Blue and things are too far gone- you're a lost cause.
Pick up a bottle of something decent at the duty free.
And I do like the food in Korea. But a plate of golbangee gets a big thumbs down and a glass of Shite ruins perfectly good fried chicken. If you want to drink cheap Korean beer, go get some like, real Korea food to go with it. And when did fried chicken become Korean food? That ain't Korean food, that's everyone food. It's fine to join the apologist legion, but at least have good taste. Or be a little bit stuffy like some of the other guys. But wantin to be chill and then suggesting Snails n Shite is the worst of two worlds man.
Anyways, shite beer and chicken is a reserved for good friends on a weekday when you're too lazy to go anywhere but right around the corner but you want to get your drink on. You invite people (strangers) out for drinks you do it proper. |

Yeah, because beer and fried chicken are traditional Korean fare. |

Right, because there's something uniquely Korean about snails, fried Chicken, and beer, altogether while watching footy, that makes me enjoy the quirks of the country.
If I really wanted to "reach out to Netizens" from Dave's Korean forum, I would arrange an all you can drink fest at 3 Alley Pub in the Twon or at Mikes Cabin in Sinchon (is that place still there?). I don't drink Whiskey anyway, but I'll bring you a bottle if you prefer. You can watch me eat snails and you can get pissed in the process. Or we can just meditate on the Han and contemplate lost ambitions from our past over a bottle of magkoli. |

There is something subtly snide, sarcastic, and condescending about your posts... |
