200 of them had to use plastic batons bought from the local Daiso store as there was a shortage!

Hope they get the owner of that fairy then. But, can they just raid a church here? Often officilas won't go into those places back home and have to negotiate them coming out and surrendering.

Cultural difference. In Europe, the Catholic church had enormous influence over European politics for 1500 years. So, my take is that Europeans still think in the back of their minds that stepping on the toes of a religious figure might be a big no-no. Also, WWII and targeting one religion for extinction doesn't help.

However, in Asia, especially East Asia, religious leaders were often targeted by monarchs if they posed a risk to them. Even 'home-grown' religions were targeted from time to time. And you should hear what Koreans, and East Asians, really think about some of those Buddhists driving around in expensive cars, and gambling...

Considering his father-in-law got rich from mass-suicide of his congregation, there might be a good cause to intervene on this cult. Laughing

All those church members and not one was wiling to give him up for the reward. That's real loyalty.

Too bad the guy's a crook.

Six thousand? I'm picturing this church more as a heavily manned fortress with high walls, networks of trenches and artillery positions. Was this an attempted arrest or a large battle?

If the cops are armed only with fluorescent plastic batons, then you probably need a lot more of them to get the job done. It's also good PR for local government officials.

It does seem like it's mostly for show. All blow and no go.
