I recently signed a contract for a Gwanggyo campus in Suwon after having been assured that it was a more urban area. However, from the research I've done now it appears I may have just signed myself up for a year of living in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do other than go to work and go home except on the rare weekend when I have time to travel somewhere. Please someone tell me that there's actually stuff to do other than hike and be outdoorsy in the Gwanggyo area.

You are in Suwon. What would be stopping you from getting in a short cab or bus ride to Ingyedong where all the bars and clubs are?

Suwon's not that big. You can probably take a bus or taxi most places you'd like to go, and Gwangyo is set to get a subway link in the next year. There's also a KTX link to Seoul.

Suwon would not be my first choice to live for Korea, as it feels old and faded to me, but Gwangyo is a new area there, and it's cleaner and newer with some nice parks. It may not be a bad place to live when you learn how to get around to the club/nightlife districts.
