Now, I won't speak for everyone on this matter. I am quite positive that, there are folks here who do NOT have a Facebook account.
But, for those that do (or those that deactivated it), do you remember life before Facebook? Do/Did you find quite to be, somewhat addicting, to know what everyone is doing?
I have initiated steps to deactivate my account. However, it will not take full effect until the 30th of this month. Granted, it can be a good way to keep in touch with family, but...they know my email. Furthermore, it is refreshing to NOT have the urge to seek out info on what so and so is/are doing, reading rants that are equivalent to some tabloid rag and updates that range from anything from "taking a dump" to "going to Applebee's".
How do you folks feel about it?
(though I confess...back when it was relevant, I was always leaned more towards Myspace) |

I deactivated my FB months ago. My social life and ability to keep in touch with friends has not been affected in any way.
Facebook is awful. |

Narcissistbook?
Fight the urge to log back on after the initiation of your deactivation period. They are counting on you to keep their advertisements running on your newsfeed. I have not signed out of FB, but I think I will.
A sure way to speed up the deactivation period is to simply post millions of hard core pornography or faces of death photos, start giving out the phone numbers of people you know but don't particularly care for, etc. etc., just start trolling to hell, and you'll see your account deactivated within less than 24 hours.

I agree, it is, full of aw...
Though, too many people rely on it.
I sit here, imagining, some folks in the upper ranks knee/backslapping, over the easy and effective way to keep track of the sheep.
It is liberating to be away from it.
Hopefully, THIS site will not turn out to promulgate the same negative feelings that FB fosters.
So far...well, it is mixed. |

I deactivated my account 5 years back then reactivated it because i realised there were a lot of pages that could be used to get local information (for example teachers in daegu - where we can get jobs without using a recruiter). Apart from that, this is facebook as far as. im concerned...

Yeah, I have a love/hate relationship with it myself. I know that there are a lot of annoying things about it, but you have to admit it is a great way to keep in touch with family and friends on the other side of the world.
I originally joined back in the fall of 2007 shortly after I arrived Korea. Even then I resisted joining until I heard they had a chess app, which was a great way to actively interact with my brothers. After that I got sucked in. |

As somebody who has never been on Facebook, I can tell you that people still find you. I think what you should do is go completely off the grid. There you will find your freedom. |

I hardly look at it but I keep it because of the photos of family. |

I mostly ignore it, which is easy considering every second piece of crap on my feed is either an ad or some "friend" I went to high school with 20 years ago and haven't talked to since recommending that I play Candy Crush. |

Facebook is only as irritating as the people using it. Serial posters who constantly update their page with every single banality of their life are annoying, but fortunately you can turn off notifications.
One of the things I find annoying is people who send you a friend request without an accompanying message. If I add someone (which I rarely do), I always at least say hello. |

I hear ya. Usually its people who would never email but simply want to boost their number of friends on their profile.
My main gripe is people posting pictures of me or other stuff that I don't like without my consent., that then becomes attached to my profile.
Also the friend requests from acquintances who I have no problems asscoiating with but who I don't view as close enough to allow onto my facebook. Once I reject their request then basically I've insulted them when I have no intention to do so. |

I have 3.
- One for personal - family and close friends.
- One for professional contacts.
- One for use with students, parents and the school.
I have found that this type of compartmentalization is necessary so that the stupidity of "friends"
or
family issues (Dad had cancer and some of the stuff posted by family aren't work safe)
doesn't negatively impact my professional persona.

I think having 2 accounts is the equivelent of being 2 faced. |

I guess that would make me 3-faced.
But I don't think that family and professional should mix with "school life".
School life shouldn't mix with family and professional. Doubly so if you are working with minors.
Professional can mix with family but I prefer to keep them separate since they have nothing in common other than me.
