I saw that number from a site called go2korea.

I see that it is indeed $18 http://morganrecruiting.com/getting-an-fbi-check-for-korea/

Not bad.

But I still don't know what my chances are. I looked at the job boarda few days ago and there were about 4 gyopo positions. I wish I knew how many people are applying for the same job to get an idea of my chances.

IF you have the required paperwork in hand (FBI check with apostille and degree copy with apostille) and are willing to take "any" teaching job then the odds of you finding work and being IN KOREA within 60 days (with the proper visa) are about 100%.

IF you have an F4 then just get a plane ticket and fly in.
Finding "a job" (2 mil, 120 class hours, housing) is not hard.
Finding that "perfect job" might take longer.
IF you are a gyopo and have a US passport, degree and TEFL cert then apply for EPIK.

The problem is that most young Americans want that "perfect job" and are busy trying to find it while sitting on mom's couch. That takes longer.

Finding jobs in EFL in Asia are about as difficult as stepping off a curb.

Oh, AND IF THE PRICE of the paperwork is a concern for you... stay home. There is no safety net over here.

When I click the link to the FD 258 form here http://morganrecruiting.com/getting-an-fbi-check-for-korea/

it doesn't seem to lead to it.

Where can I print it off?

Is this it? http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/forms/description-fd258

go2Korea is a really bad site. A lot of the stuff is outdated and inaccurate.

What if you don't want to pay for the plane ticket? I see there are ones that don't provide airfare. And I feel I must live in Seoul. I see only a few gyopo positions listed on the Dave's Cafe Korean Job Board, and I don't know where else online to look for.

If you quit before your contract's up, (is that 10 months or 12 months?) do you have to hide that from your future potential employers?

How much does the TEFL cert cost and does it net you a greater salary?

If you get a job offer and say yes but then change your mind, are you blacklisted from the same recruiter?

If there are recruiters, does that mean they only recruit through recruiters or also direct applicants? If they accept direct applicants, are they paid more than those who are recruited by recruiters?

That's not always a bad thing. A year or two or three is a long time to be in a bad job with a bad employer. Taking a little bit of time and not in such a hurry will result in a more pleasant experience. One only need sift through this site to hear the hellish complaints.

But, I do second the idea of worry too much over the PRICE of paperwork. Stay home if you're too fearful. There really is no safety net over here.

If you don't want to pay for airfare, apply from home instead of coming to Korea first, and decline any offers from schools not providing airfare. One way airfare is becoming the norm for Seoul these days.

The cost of a TEFL certification can vary greatly, just do an internet search. For a first time teacher at a hagwon, it's unlikely TEFL will increase your salary, as they'll just look for the next teacher who will accept a lower salary. For a public school job, 120hr TEFL with 20 hours in class (it can't be just 120 hrs online) is a job requirement.

Some schools recruit directly to save on recruiter fees. This saving is not passed on to the teacher, the salary will generally be the same. It's unlikely you're going to get more than 2.1 with housing and airfare. My school now advertises directly on Craigslist Seoul Education. Have you tried looking there?

A recruiter may stop working with you if you say yes to a job and then change your mind at the last minute. There are dozens of recruiters, so don't worry about that.

Most contracts are 12 months, which is what you need to complete to get your severance pay and airfare home (if that's included). Worrying about quitting/ getting fired before you even have a job yet is jumping the gun a bit, and probably not a good sign.

If you do TEFL and get a job for the first time at a public school, do you get paid more than 2.0~2.1?

Do they give a certain amount for your airfare or do they look at how much it actually cost your plane ticket and give exactly that much?

For the hagwons is it true that you can only prepare for 5 minutes and still make it through the class and maybe get fired but you can still get another job easily? But won't they ask your job history or do they have a network of hagwons with list of blacklisted teachers like the ones who got fired for not teaching well? Or as long as you hide the fact that you were fired from another hagwon are you all set?

2. Depends on the school.

3. Don't come here.
