OK. Robben did embellish but it still was a penalty. The Mexicans aren't taking the loss too well.
| Quote: |
"He dived three times, he should have cautioned him the first time," Miguel Herrera, the Mexico coach, told reporters of Robben after the game.
"It seems to me the reason (we lost) was the referee, the man with the whistle. He left us outside the next stage of the World Cup.
"If the referee starts marking fouls that don't exist, you leave the World Cup to circumstances out of your hands. We expect the referee committee to take a look at that and that this gentleman goes home, just like us."

Blaming the ref. Haven't heard that excuse before. |

Tough loss for Mexico. The Dutch were pressing hard and Mex jsut wanted to hang on for the 1-0 lead.
Then Arjen Robben the master diver of all divers sold such a BS foul to se up the winning Dutch goal through penalty kick by Huntelaar.
Another CONCACAF team goes home. At least the Ticos are up 1 nil against the boring Greeks. |

Ticos are through to the quarters. Can't believe they pulled it off with one man down.
And in terms of the Arjen dive. Yeah it still was a light foul but c'mon, this guy is about as well known for diving as suarez is for taking bites out of people. The ref should have told him to cut the crap earlier in the game.
But in the end you can't sit back and whine about the refs. Football will always have cheating players until they're held accountable. That won't happen because replaying every foul would disrupt the game too much so dirty players will still get away with murder. As sad as it sounds, the diving/cheating/acting is just part of the game now. |

South Korean national team returned home to little fan fare. Some fans actually through candy at them.

Way to support your young team, SK!
Still, it's a much better than the way North Korea received their team four year ago...
"North Korean Soccer Team Punished for World Cup Failure"
http://www.newsweek.com/north-korean-soccer-team-punished-world-cup-failure-74239
According to reports from Radio Free Asia and the South Korean media, earlier this month the team and manager were forced onto a stage at the People's Palace of Culture in front of 400 government officials, students, and journalists. According to the Guardian, the athletes were subjected to a "six-hour barrage of criticism" for their poor performances that was led by a TV commentator and sports minister Pak Myong-chol.
And according to other reports, "Their coach Kim Jong-hun was also publicly humiliated and sentenced to hard labour for their performance.

I am just not a fan of many things that relate to Mexico..including their team.
Thus, I took great pleasure in knowing they were eliminated. Whether they were robbed or not, I cannot speak on that. I did not bother to watch the game.
Legit or robbed...I was happy to know they lost. |

England fan has piece of ear bitten off at World Cup
http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/world/2014/07/182_159996.html
An England football supporter had a piece of his ear bitten off by another England fan at the World Cup in Brazil, the Daily Mirror reported.
They had been attending England's group stage match against Uruguay, whose striker Luis Suarez was hit with a lengthy suspension for sinking his teeth into the shoulders of Italy's Giorgio Chiellini in the team's next match. |
