Theres one thing I hate more than when Korea loses (bad sportsmanship, whining, blaming etc), and thats when they win (general lack of modesty, bad sportsmanship etc.).

They were not pelted. Some mama-boy tossed 호닥였 in front of them. People around him were telling him to stop the stupidity.

Poor sports.

No sense of losing gracefully.

Of course, had they won, they'd be as arrogant as heck about it as though it was K-destiny.

I remember the arrogance slowly cracking during the last world cup losses. They started losing the game and 90% of the people were just angrily storming out of the bar by the last quarter and didn't even want to see if the team could come back from the loss. Bad losers.

yeah. looks like the gloss has finally come off Hong Myung-Bo. His appointment was an attempt to recapture some of hiddinck's glory but looks like it didn't rub off.

Yes, one knucklehead represents the entire culture. Most Korean fans knew their team's chances this season weren't too good and already had major issues with team going in- Jung Sung Ryung, Park Chu Young, etc. Most people I know were just joking "Well at least we're at the same level as England and Spain".

Anyways, the reason most people were storming angrily out of the bar was that they had stayed up all night on a workday to watch the team. What do you expect people to do when its 600AM and you've been up for 12 hours and your team goes down 3-0 at halftime? And even then a goodly amount stuck around.

To use a US sports analogy, guy seems like he might be a great "college" coach but is not cut out for the pros (and many pro coaches bomb at college). Got a great result with the Olympic team (bronze medal is an excellent result for Korea, every bit as big as 2002), but once you start dealing with professional primadonnas, what worked then can fail now. Seems like he doesn't have the chops for that kind of work. Back to the youth for him.

Olympic football is nowhere near as important as the World Cup. Semi finals in the WC is better than an Olympic gold in football. For smaller teams I think quarter finals in the WC would be better than gold.

I agree with Koreans having low expectations for this WC and not being particularly bothered by it. Most guys I've spoken to were getting up early/staying up late to watch the matches but had the same resigned outlook as we (England fans) did.

Oh, you were at the same bar? Amazing. Actually it was more of a club. And you know the exact reason they were all leaving? I guess you were by the door interviewing them all as they were leaving, right? Laughing Rolling Eyes

No I wasn't talking about the ONE guy throwing candy at them. I'm speaking in general. They often show poor sportsmanship. Either gloating when they win, or blaming anyone but themselves when they lose.

Yes, I know they had low expectations this year, and thank goodness for that, or we'd never hear the end of it after they lost.

to be fair the manager made an apology blaming himself.

But even then it was uneccesarily grovelling: everybodys human, its only a game. koreans take winning and losing far too seriously.

Surprised he didn't commit hari-kiri or something.

Dude, it was 6 AM when they went down 3 nil. People were tired, the game was over, time to go home. Taking people to task for "angrily" storming out at 6AM after having been up all night and having work/class the next day is really a stretch. Are you sure that if this match happened at like 11PM and they went down 3-0 at midnight on a Saturday, that everyone would have left in the same fashion?

DUDE IT WAS 6AM.

Well Hong Myunbg-bo is going to be staying on as manager. Probably the right move. A manger can only do so much with the talent he has.

If it had been 6 A.M. and Korea was winning, every Korean person in the bar would have been late for work. And it would have been perfectly fine with the boss.

Stop making up excuses for the little man syndrome that exists here.
