Just curious if you could do it all over again what is one reasonable thing you wish you had changed to your contract so things went smoother?

5 days holiday.

monday to friday acts as 5 days, not including the weekends. I get so tired of arguing this when they know already, and want to pull a fast one. It just becomes a bone of unnecessary contention every time.

So, change the wording on that.

A LOR clause. Basically if I quit how the contract states. Give 30 or 60 days, pay back plane ticket, etc the person is given a LOR. Maybe handled by third party.

I've always lied to my school and told them I'd be flying out of Korea on the Monday and getting back on the Friday. I still always lost those two days in the middle weekend if I was away for two weeks, so maybe I should have told them I was going on holiday from Monday to Friday, returning to Korea to be ready for an emergency call out at the weekend, then going back out on the Monday.

I am confused by this. You mean the schools try to count the weekend as part of your allotted vaca?

Some schools will try to get you to work on Saturday also or they take Thur. ~ Tues. off instead and short you a day. The hagwon boss said that it makes it look like a shorter off time so parents don't complain.

yes.

If you have for eg. 5 days in summer, the school will say you can have monday to wednesday as holiday - saturday and sunday then make it up to 5 days.
But then you argue/ask that you'd like monday to friday - the school then complain that this isn't 5 days, but 9.

In effect, they are giving you two days as holiday which aren't theirs to give because they aren't working days.

Korea sparkling!

Most contracts include a clause like this.

The Employee may use 10-working days as paid vacation per year. The days must be scheduled with the Institute at least one month in advance. If the Employee wishes to take unpaid time off, they will incur the cost of a replacement teacher. Days in which the Employee does not regularly work i.e., Saturdays, Sundays and National Holidays are not to be considered as part of the vacation period

Make sure the bolded part is included, or you might end up with 5-6 holidays instead of 10

Having seen at least 30 contracts that don't include a clause like that, Id argue that isnt true.

Ask to get it put in there then, or risk getting only 1/2 your actual vacation days. Personally, I have gotten 10 days every year, altough once I got 6 (paid for the other 4)

Mon-Wed off in the summer, and a Monday- Tuesday in the winter just isn't enough in my opinion. Getting Monday-Friday off is great, 9 days off in a row to recharge the batteries.

That I receive a 1 billion won bonus for every day I wear a red rose to class which the school would NOT consider to be an unreasonable change.

There is no need for such a clause as labour law stipulates clearly that you get a half day off per two weeks i.e. 1 day per month of work at a minimum of 80% attendance.

Your employer holds the right to make you take holidays according to when they wish although of course you can apply for particular days. holidays must be taken on regular working days Saturdays (legally a paid off day) and Sundays (a non=paid off day) do not contribute to vacation -assuming a Mon-Fri job,
