Isolated? The Tea Party? FoxNews? You're delusional if you think rational discourse is what is the norm back home. And its not limited to the US. Look at France with the National Front becoming a legitimate party.
And sorry, its not Rob Ford that's the isolated part, its the fact that he's still polling in the 30% range and has an outside chance at re-election thanks to the other two candidates splitting the vote. |

Yet nothing you've said negates what Chaperasteque claimed and what I've been able to prove with one video. And that's because you can't. Your inability to actually deal with the problems presented seems endemic among Koreans. Deny, shift focus, do whatever you can, but heaven forbid you should acknowledge and deal with a problem.
I've particularly enjoyed your recent claims of knowledge on any area raised on this forum. Air travel, sea travel, is there anything you don't know?
You've become a joke on this forum. Sadly people like you are the reason Korea still has so many problems. |

First, the guy claimed Koreans aren't having rational debates to solve problems. Implicit in this statement is that there is something uniquely Korean about this situation or that Koreans are incapable of such acts.
However, we can clearly tell that irrationality is the norm around the world. If you are going to claim that its not, don't whine and moan when someone contradicts your claim. This is an open debate forum, not an echo chamber.
Lastly, just because you are citing a problem, doesn't mean you are trying to constructively deal with the problem. For example, two people can raise the issue of inner-city crime and violence. However, they can do it in totally different ways where one person is obviously being bigoted and is using anything as an attempt to tear others down in order to make themselves feel better. This is especially true when you are of one group criticizing another.
For a more at home example, look at our reactions to criticisms from within the expat community and by expats who we trust vs. criticism from Koreans. You can have a respected expat blogger and a Korean make the same kind of criticism, but you will have completely different intents from the complainers and get completely different reactions from people reading them. Does that Korean REALLY care about English teachers? Of course not. Same with the constant Korea critic. Tone and being within the group are everything.
So its perfectly fine to raise issues and offer pointed criticisms, however when addressing entire countries and cultures, its best to be careful and considerate, not blunt and spiteful. |

All expats like to have a moan, admittedly some far more than others, but is there anything more obnoxious than an expat setting out to change the habits and culture of the country in which he is a visitor? You can trust that ROK was doing just fine before you arrived and will most likely continue to do so long after you've ridden off into the sunset on your high horse. |
