Deposits were unheard of when I came to Korea. You can thank a few of your predecessors for leaving unpaid bills, damages, etc, for the initiation of this contract condition. Once set, it sticks.
Its a reactive thing. Hagwons & public school programs that have so far gone unburnt generally dont ask for deposits. |

I wonder why they are saying that it's illegal for them to take it out of my salary, and that I have to send it to their bank account.
At the last public school I was at they took it out. |

Because it's illegal to do so. They can't garnish your wages like that. I would suggest just not giving it to them and giving the labour board a call and see what they say. |
