http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-28339843

"MH17 was carrying at least 154 Dutch nationals, 27 Australians, 43 Malaysians (including 15 crew), 12 Indonesians and nine Britons.

Other passengers came from Germany, Belgium, the Philippines and Canada, with the nationalities of 41 people not yet confirmed. "

As I'm sure many have heard, there is a bit of confusion as to who shot it down (pro-Russian rebels or Ukrainian military) but it's just awful that a commercial airline got caught up in the middle of the civil unrest in the region. Plus it's the 2nd incident in a matter of months for Malaysian airlines... business must be slowing right down.

Sad

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/07/17/mh17-black-box-sent-to-moscow-for-investigation.html

One of the most prominent rebel commanders put up a post on his SNS claiming that they had taken down an Ukrainian transporter around the time and area that the Malaysian jet got shot down, but then later deleted his post after the news broke that it was a civilian jet instead of military aircraft.

The ambiguity over 'who pulled the trigger' at this point appears simply whether it was the rebels themselves or a Russian AA battery/Russian fighter jet near the border.

But, if one reviews the communication intercept released by Ukrainian intelligence service in which the rebels obviously had no idea it was a civilian jet, it's highly likely that the rebels themselves are responsible.

The first thread on this topic turned into a joke-fest before it even reached the second page. Crude, insensitive, juvenile. In fact I'd expect better from most teenagers. (Daves, sigh.)

So I'll make my comments here. What an awful turn of events. So many innocent lives snuffed out in an instant. People like you & me, who buy tickets & fly places. My heart goes out to the victims' kin.

Malaysia Air is a world-class airline. I flew with them twice last year & would do so again without hesitation.

I just made the mistake of watching the liveleak vid (just stupid morbid curiosity I suppose) of the crash site. Horrific. One can only hope it was over for them relatively quickly....RIP.

OMG! Me too. I saw photos that people walked up to the crash site and took upclose and then posted to social media around the globe...a mass of mangled body parts. It was horrendous.

There should have been a warning label- "horror-filled photos" before clicking onto photos.

What do you expect to see when someone posts photos of a plane that was just shot down by a missile? Did you think they were carrying rainbows and unicorns or something?
