|
|
Hello,
I was just offered a GOE public school teaching position through ATOP recruiting. What I'm confused about is that my recruiter asked me to send them my documents in the mail (CRC, apostilled degree, passport photos, etc.) before even sending me a contract for the school. When I asked to see the contract first they sent me a document that looks like a pretty generalized EPIK contract without specific working dates listed. I haven't even spoken directly with anyone from the school yet. I have only interviewed with GOE. Is this normal? I'm a little nervous about just handing over my documents. At the same time, I don't want my recruiter to think I'm dragging my feet. Helpful input from those of you who have experience with teaching overseas is appreciated!
Thanks! |

It's pretty normal for Korea ...
... but not without risk
(if the recruiter (individual) working for that agency is a bit dodgy then he has you locked in since he has your documents).
A blank contract (EPIK) is pretty normal as is not talking to the (public) school (especially since it is possible that no-one at the school during the summer can speak English and it is also the summer holiday break in public schools so the English department staff are probably not there).

I'm not trying to bad mouth that recruiter or anything, but they don't seem like the most competent bunch. I'm looking for work as well, and they didn't even seem to look at what I requested. they just sent me a list of public schools in a different regions. They also sent me a sample contract.
Basically this is the only recruiter I've dealt with that have mass e-mailed me, and it doesn't exactly show that they give a shit about their teacher. |

Surprise, surprise. They have certain jobs. Do you want them or not? If not, look elsewhere. It's a tough market currently. |
