This is just plain not true. Korea gets a lot of tourists from Japan and China. You are right that Korea isn't that interesting to Western tourists compared to the alternatives, but why is that all that matters? For some reason a lot of Koreans seem to think the same thing, and I think it's absurd. Money's money, after all. |

Oh sorry, I responded to something you didn't say. I thought you were saying that Korea has little/nothing of interest for tourists, but you didn't say that. I do hear that kind of thing a lot though, and I was saying that Korea does have a lot to offer tourists; just not Western tourists. Again, reading comprehension fail on my part. |

I dont think its too far off the mark. Almost everywhere tries to generate a catchy tourism slogan & this one is better than most. I kind of like how it involves the audience instead of just imposing some bland positive adjective.
The range of markets is various & for Korea thats primarily other Asian countries. This taps into those people imagining Korea through popular dramas, K-pop, etc. There were multiple busloads of Chinese tourists at my tiny neighborhood beach today (where a hit drama was once filmed). They seemed really happy.
Sloganeering is like poetry: tougher than it looks. |

Yes, but I wonder how effective sloganeering really is for attracting people to foreign countries. I've visited a lot of countries over the years as a tourist and I'm not sure I'd even be able to name any of their slogans nevermind been influenced enough by them to decide to visit. The one exception I can think of is 'Thailand, land of Smiles' but I'm pretty sure I saw that slogan for the first time after I'd already arrived in the country. |

Actually come to think of it, I've been told by Korean adults, without any sense of embarassment or shame, that they bought a certain mobile phone as a direct result of liking the celebrity in the advert.

| That logo is embarrassing.. even without the stylized Korea part. I was hoping these guys would learn their lesson after all the design blogs had a laugh riot at the Korean food promotion a few months back. What's the disconnect between these tourism folks and the Korean design community? |

I don't think I'd like my parents coming over here. I'd worry someone is about to make my dad angry or upset my mum. I wouldn't care if it was just a friend but I'd be really sensitive if it was my folks here

I'm always in a bad mood arriving back in Korea. It could be the traveling leading up to coming back but something always irritates me quickly on arrival (or on a plane full of Koreans) and the journey between the airport and where I live is usually a bad tempered one. That's not typical for me either, I'm usually very tolerant of what goes on around me. It's just the return to this place from somewhere else sets me on edge and I notice every bit of rudeness from other people |
