Can this be done?

I read this at the pension office website: http://www.nps.or.kr/jsppage/english/scheme/scheme_04.jsp

At the bottom it mentions that you have to show them your ARC. Does that mean they take it from you at that time, and if so, will I have problems renewing my E-2 with the new employer?

My current contract expires the end of this month (July). My ARC and visa expire the first week of September. I will leave Korea for three weeks and start working at my new job on August 26.

Is there any problem with this?

Somebody did it before. You can try but it is always a timing issue and that. Plus on how much the pension office checks things out.

Yes, this can be done. I've done it more than more. GO ahead and collect your pension at the airport. Of course, you have to file at your local pension office, first. You are required to show a one-way ticket. So, if you're planning to come back you should purchase two-one way tickets.

No, they don't take your ID card at the airport. They will ask you, "Are you finished" and/or "Are you coming back?" Just say, "I'm coming back." Thy will return your card to you as long as it is still valid. No problem.

I've collected pension and returned to start my new job.
You shouldn't have any problems. NO, the pension doesn't waste energy trying to see if you came back/stayed out of the country.

This stuff about one-way tickets is odd. Nowadays everyone just uses print-outs of emailed flight receipts, which any 4 year-old can manipulate to look like a one-way ticket. In fact the whole thing could even be forged in 15 minutes with Microsoft Word. Alternatively, you can just buy a cheap ferry ticket to Japan, bring that to the pension office, and then cancel it for a refund. Unless the pension office is verifying your flight details with the airline, then I don't see any flaw in that, do you?

But thank you for confirming that you could get your pension and then start at a new job. That was on the same visa as the previous job, extended for the new job, yes? That's what seems crucial at the moment. I was just worried that Immigration would regard the disbursement of pension as a kind of termination of my visa.

Yes I was wondering about which side of the gates this business would be done in, so I've already half given up on the idea of the airport refund. I bought my round-trip ticket weeks ago. But what do they actually request to look at - the boarding pass? Does the boarding pass of the first stage of a round-trip flight actually indicate that it's a round trip flight? I don't recall...

Airport aside, the point about one-way tickets is that if I apply at the local pension office for the refund to be deposited to my banking account, it's very easy to show them something that appears to be one-way travel. Doctor your flight's email receipt, or buy a refundable ferry ticket. So unless the airlines and ferry companies communicate with the pension office - highly unlikely - then it's a non-issue.

I've read about collecting your pension at Incheon Int. Airport...what about Gimhae?

Just use white out on your round trip itinerary and make a copy. It won't show up. Just looks like a one way ticket.

I was told by many of my Korean colleagues that, like any government agency, they don't work too hard. They only want the minimum. Which is to check that your school stopped making pension payments and that you left the country.

I know I just made another post, but, I applied for my pension deposit when I was still in limbo between e2 and d10. Since immigration took my e2 card, I just gave them a color copy of front and back that I had. No questions asked, no slight concern for my d10 or anything like that.

They simply took all my documents, I did the form, they showed me the calendar when they expected it to show up and said thank you.
