A qualification is whatever the person hiring you considers it to be.
I would probably never hire a Korean language teacher with a masters in teaching Korean as a second language. However, I hired a Korean-Canadian Mom who was bilingual and with no university education to be my private Korean teacher in Canada.
Important and relevent questions considered in my hiring process were:
-Was she bilingual?
-Could we meet at a place near my home?
-Does she have a low price?
-Can she help instruct the textbooks and materials I've already chosen, and get me to actually study by testing me at the beginning of each class?
By far, the last factor is the most important because language teaching is actually more like personal training. You just need to get someone to do the work, since all of the material out there is free and babies can figure out learning languages so you are a severe retard if you can't look something up for copy/repeat it. You just have to do it. That's why I'll always trust and respect a bilingual who learned my language to fluency over a degree holder.
The same goes for personal training. People want to know whether the trainer actually delivers results, not his certificates. Yet personal trainers themselves are always asking, "What certificates will get me more clients or a better job?" |

This was the best link I could find that explained the changes.

I don't see how they can justify the changes, but until they are forced to back down they will remain in place for now.
As I understand it though it is still straightforward getting the residency card in Spain for your spouse.
You are right about it being better than the alternative which would mean that even with a job paying 18,600 you would have to be getting paid that for the last 12 months. So best case scenario you would have to leave your non-EU spouse and live in the UK earning that wage for a year.
I voted conservative...never again. |
You voted Tories? Boo!
This policy is one of the reasons I'm keen for Scotland to get independence. I still have a couple of years left in me before I consider going back to the UK but I appreciate the link.
isitts - it's a good idea to consider living somewhere else, but it's heartbreaking to think I might not be able to retire to my place of birth with the woman I love. |
It was my first general election where I could vote, so I am going to claim the ignorance of youth.
I would be interested in seeing if an independent Scotland would have the same rules for citizenship as the Irish. If they did I would jump at it and bypass the whole financial requirement. |
The current SNP response is that they would look to lower the financial requirement but with the Tories out of the picture there's a good chance that it could be removed all together.
In which case we should all take our spouses back to Scotland. It's the best part of Britain anyway. |

Why is a CELTA not a related qualification? |
I don't know if it has already been said but...it simply may be a threat to the "Korean way".... |

I think the answer was 'because Robbie hasn't got one.'. |

It most certainly is and I hope you are right about the SNP. It would at least be a consolation for losing Scotland. |

Hum... De Montfort? Isn't that a former polytechnic? Not even a real university in my opinion. |
