It is straight up bullshit that Korean teachers are subject to yearly drug tests, HIV tests, and criminal background checks.

That's certainly compelling evidence. Any teacher registered with any education office in Korea needs a criminal check full stop.

teachers also provide new medical checks yearly. Wasn't there a big to-do awhile ago about HIV tests for E2 visas stopping?

Korean contract teachers are supposed to be subjected to tests, the question is how militant the school admins are in asking the teacher to get checked. I've gone with contract teachers to get tested, and checked on many occasions. And we are subjected to the same checks. What they do with our samples after we leave, I have no idea. And since Koreans aren't subject to visa restrictions it really isn't a priority for the admins. However as a NET, we need the paper to actually get our visa.

Full-time teachers are 'supposed' undergo a health check every few years. Again it depends on how insistent the education office is to see the results for Korean teachers.

Although strangely enough, my new school hasn't asked about my health test yet, and it's been 6 months. I think I'll leave it until the ask for one... i hate needles.

If it's an education office requirement it isn't on the schools, its' on the education office, and lately they've been making sure everyone has their paperwork in.
