I have a question for someone who already had a baby here in Korea while living here without a renewable visa (i.e. being forced to do regular visa runs).

The rule is to register a newborn within 4 weeks after birth with immigration (baby already has a passport of my country).

Will registration mean that the baby will have to leave the country with me on visa runs, or is there a special rule for infants that would allow them to remain in Korea until a certain age?

Would be nice if someone could give me information from their own experience, or a link to a reliable web page.

Thanks!

Was one of the baby's parents a Korean?

Sorry, I forgot to specify. None of the parents are Korean.

You want to look at the F3 family dependent visa:

I don't think your child will have to do visa runs with you, but I have no experience to advise you.

If neither you or your child's mother are on any kind of visa, there is no way to attain a visa for your child. What is the mother's visa status? If she has any kind (E-2, E-1, etc.), it is possible.

You can only do that if one of the parents has a visa. If they are both doing visa runs to maintain their visa-free status (in other words, they are officially considered tourists) then the child will also have to make a visa run every 3 months (or 6 for a Canadian).

Ah okay, that makes sense of course. I should've guessed it, not thinking too clearly at the moment (sleep deprivation). Thanks for the replies!
