This may be "philosophical chat" but perhaps fits better under a topic of psychology.

I'm sure most of us have old hurts from childhood, and those we accumulate through life, that we never really deal with. Most of us are neurotic, and it is from the old hurts that we live. We build defenses, we withdraw in a way, or else get up to all sorts of troubles. Most of us have an addiction or several.

We might call ourselves mature, but underneath that there are many old never resolved issues, I suppose.

I have not known a person who is not carrying some old hurts. And through our daily lives this is a significant thing.

What's the point of talking about this here? I dunno. Is there a way to resolve them?

OP, when you are reminded of trauma, that's your body reacting to stress. It's telling you: "danger, don't go there". So, first thing to do is release your stress, but it's easier said than done.

More constructive thing to do is to look for things that you avoid. It's not a straightforward thing. e.g. personally speaking, I could never watch an episode of Frasier (sitcom from 90's) all the way through becasue I could feel something worth cringe was aout to happen. Frasier, or Niles was about to do something similar to what I've done in the past that made me, on the retrospection, very embarrassed. However, not watching it all the way through only hurt me because that was the world telling me:it's nothing, and I was the only one worrying that it was something when everybody else didn't give a hoot.

I don't buy all this stuff about childhood experiences haunting you forever, and I'm sick of hearing about it. It seems to be mostly excuses for negative traits that you can work through if you're aware of them

I think Self Pity doesn't do any good. So many people have overcome incredibly difficult odds, regardless of what hurts or injustices were done to them.

If you carry your heavy burdens on your shoulders, you will miss a lot of life.

I don't mean to say this is about self-pity. Sure that happens sometimes. I believe, whether this is true or not, not sure, that most people have this feeling of being hurt, over the years, not just from childhood, but right on up through the years and into old age and death. Psychologically we accumulate. We see life through that collection of experiences, and it has a profound influence on our behavior, whether we are aware of that or not.
