OK SR....interested in seeing how you spin this one?

Must everything be viewed as pertaining to race? Could not this individual just be concerned about a disease spreading among the populace?

I, agree. If Africans are contracting the ebola virus right now and they are coming to Korea, what is wrong with wanting to be safe and quarantine them at least to be sure ebola doesn't spread?

I suppose Korea should just let any and all africans arrive unchecked, and invite ebola and HIV in like they were the guests of honor.

I also agree. It's time for Koreans to stop accepting Africans as guests of honor.

I saw a photo on Facebook of a sign in front of JR Pub in Itaewon stating "We apologize but due to ebola virus we are not accepting Africans at the moment". A friend suggested that Afrikaners test the limits.

Apparently an Afrikaner did. She told them she was from Africa, they said she was welcome. She declined.

There is an article in the Korea Times about that sign-

If I were the owner of JR pub I would be starting to get worried about the attention their new "policy" is getting. Seriously, is it possible they think they will sell more beer and pub food if they stop letting black people in?

This will only bring them more trouble and, less business.

A business can reserve the right to refuse service.

I agree with you on that (I don't think anyone should face legal punishment for such a policy), but we can reserve the right to go elsewhere.

The owner of JR Pub is not Korean. It looks like some people recently posted some nasty comments on the bar's facebook page. I wonder if he's going to regret his decision.

That's truly inexcusable, in that case.

As for restaurants being able to ban whomever they like, it's fine if you think that, but isn't the colossal stupidity/inefficacy of the policy offensive? If they were actually banning Africans/West Africans then there might be a tiny bit of sanity involved, but being Korea, you know that this is going to apply to all black people...

Actually I believe JR's has two owners. 1 is Korean, the other is this Tony guy who is pictured in the photo. I believe he was born in Hawaii but has spent most of his life in the Philippines....at least that is what I read regarding this place and this story.

And the previous poster is correct, you can reserve the right to serve who you like....though it doesn't appear to be a very good decision from a business standpoint.
