Wait, but wouldn't it be expected a person doing this would have money? The other method that jumps to my mind would be to marry a local and run the business in that person's name, if the local govt would not let a foreigner do it. Or bribe the govt. |

Yes smarty, one should have enough money to cover business expenses. But is there a country that would not require a huge sum to get an investor's visa? I think I read that Korea requires a $200,000 deposit for an investor's visa, and that money has to have been earned outside of Korea. Anyone know? |

It varies by country, I was looking at Canada and it's $800K. |

Yes.
Korea.
Simply have to obtain a resident visa.
Lots of information about as to how to do that.

That's a belief.
If we post on Dave's then we do post on Dave's. |

So you're an analyst who 'doesn't care' about internet arguing and who's 'so much smarter than everyone' and you're now trying to convince some anonymous avatar you're never going to meet that you're rich. Classic |

There wasn't the concern then that there is now. The concern started when Canadians started coming over in droves and were willing to work more hours for the same money than the people already in Korea. And then there was the IMF crisis.
The demographics problem is old news. That's why the government funds all the multi-cultural support for immigrants. They need the bodies.
It will (has had) have an effect on private schools of all stripes except those at or near the top. But Koreans NEED English to compete for college entrance and employment. So there will always be some work.
No doubt it's tough and will get tougher. But that pretty much goes for anything anywhere related to becoming successful. |

until western economies really get fixed times will be tough. Teaching Korea was never that great to begin with but after the great recession hit it was like the end of the Titanic that was up in the air

Honestly, people who were/are rich have no reason to post on Dave's unless it is out of a sense of amusement. Secondly, people who try to defend their 'richness' with retorts and analysis of "How I Made Myself Rich in Korea" are just trying to convince others that they have something worthwhile to say. People who are most likely rich, i.e. referring to 'long-time posters' such as the -*took the name out so as not to infer any particular person* types never bring up their wealth or position or their business dealings in Dave's just because they realize that their wealth or position are not worth discussing on Dave's with others, UNLESS it is someone who is genuinely interested in improving their self.
I laugh when I read posts by people who have been members on the forums less than 2 ~ 3 years talking about how they have amassed such an enormous amount of wealth in such a short time, but to each their own. If someone wants to believe they are rich then who am I to stand in their way? From a practical point of view, I prefer to remain with my feet in the sand so to speak and let my actions speak louder than my words when it comes to how much money I am earning. |

Thank you for the completely unnecessary opinions about "how things are", yet things aren't that way, as demonstrated by my existence. |
