Heading here next weekend. What are the best places for a single guy looking to have some fun and mingle?

What's your target demo?

What kind of crowd/vibe/music are you looking for?

Target demo - single friendly open ladies looking to have a good time.

Music - top40, hiphop, rnb

Never have much luck in the mostly Korean techno joints, not to mention I can not dance to that stuff. So those places are a no go.

I don't actually know that much about Itaewon, only been a couple times myself. Gold Bar might along the lines of what you're looking for (though I can't recall the music) but it was pretty loaded with US service guys the time I was there and generally when there's MPs assigned to hang out inside all night I'm inclined to go elsewhere. Is Seoul Pub the pickup spot that was mentioned?

In Hongdae, maybe check out Gogo's? The music is probably along the lines of what you want, it's not wall-to-wall dudes as a general rule, and the music isn't so loud as to make conversation impossible. Oh, and Thursday Party. Naked (the club) sounds like what you want ladies / music wise, but it can be the biggest sausagefest in the city, plus you know, someone was killed 'there' (expired elsewhere) a couple months ago.

If you're comfortable talking up strangers, there's always the park too. Actually, that's what I'd recommend. People usually go there to mingle and it's a hell of a lot easier to chat than in a club. Make some new friends, see where the night goes from there.

PS You don't have to be the Techno Viking to have fun in an electronic club. You can get away just bobbing your head or jumping, or get one of the Koreans to teach you how to do that chicken head dance.
Also, bad dancing is in these days! Hipsters love that shit.
That being said, even for those into electronic music, a lot of the Korean techno clubs I think you're referring to are expensive, have ultra-repetitive/just bad EDM/trance music and pack in far more patrons than capacity. The appeal seems mostly status/image based. Gonna have a bad time.

TL;DR:
Thursday Party or the park is probably a good start.

LOL. The Itaewon bar scene hardly equates with "Korea".

If you are allergic to African people or don't want to get the Ebola virus, you can go to JR Pub.

Let's split words, and miss the point, because that would be smart...

The Korean bar scene is laughable to the rest of the developed world.

It's nice that a guy like you has found his niche in the ROK and has made his way over to posting here incessantly. You have done well for yourself.

I wish the mods would ban this Kimchininja troll. What a vacuous, annoying bore. As bad as IPIC...and they banned him. Let's hope his days of annoying people on this site are limited.

Not even close. He's got a lot more Zackback and he does IPIC/Dodge/Radius. Kimchininja and Zackback share this blatant trollish nature. The many-headed conservative monster of Dodge would often let his true (insecure) colors shine through.

According to his post on the travel forum, he's on a 'mini retirement' at the moment and it looks like he's planning to spend it in Seoul, picking fights with people on Dave's Cafe. With all his money I'm a bit surprised he couldn't come up with a better plan than that. Laughing

Check out Soul Train, a small but niche bar that plays mostly oldie R&B and soul. It's near 3 Alley Pub.
