|

I have been looking for an Archery Club in Seoul but every post has outdated links or just no information.
I am a complete beginner to Archery but I have some skill in Korean, I live in Sindaebang, on Line 2 and want to find one that isn't too far away, though I don't mind travelling.
If anyone knows of anything I would really appreciate it, thanks! |

The only one I know of is at the East Gate of the old walled city in Suwon.
They shoot on most weekends.
If you come in the gate it will be on your right hand side and extends from the wall to the 1st tourist pavillion.

What kind of Archery?
Like...Olympic style?
I don't know anything about that but I have a friend who's in a traditional Korean archery club. |

I'm sure I passed some archery targets and probably a range the other week. Along the Hangang at Nanji Park (north side of the river).
It was dark and late but I'm certain they were archery targets. |

If you're interested in Korean traditional archery, I can answer all your questions, as I've been a member at a range in Seoul for the last 10 years.
There's roughly 8-10 traditional ranges in Seoul (one on Namsan, another in Mokdong, near SNU, up behind Kwangwhamun downtown, etc.) Mine's in NE Seoul, in Nowon Gu. Basically it's a membership club, meaning you pay to be a member (300,000w for initiation to the National Federation and local club) and then you can go as you like. At the beginning you'd get set up with a teacher to show you proper technique (it's hard to hit a target 145 meters away!) and use training bows, but then you'd be free to go as you like. All ranges have different variations of the rules on this, I'm sure.
Feel free to ask more questions, if you'd like. |

Yes, this is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for! I heard of one place that sounds similar to that near the World Cup Stadium but I wasn't exactly sure how it works. Do I just turn up and pay or do I have to fill out forms etc. After the membership do you have to pay any money? Do you have to buy equipment or can you rent? |

Well, I don't think you can just show up and pay. There's more of a proocess than that. To become a member, you'd have to meet with someone (like the president), discuss the schedule for learning with the head teacher (사두님), and things like that.
After the initiation fee, monthly dues are 30,000w a month. I know these rates vary per club.
All ranges have equipment which you learn with, but after your period with the teacher ends, you'd be expected to buy your own.
Where do you live? Perhaps I can tell you the closest range. |
