I'm going to list a couple to get us started:
1. Always say "Chom KkaKa jususeyo" just before buying at a store where it seems like you can negotiate. Usually saves me at least 5,000 won every time, like here: http://mykoreaandi.blogspot.com/2013/10/kaka-juseyo.html Maybe it is only because they are impressed I am trying.
2. Get the Honey extension for Google Chrome when online shopping: www.joinhoney.com to apply coupon codes automatically when you shop online. Nobrainer
I must have saved some money this summer on air con. I'm sure I've only turned mine on two or three times. If I've used it four times thus far I'd be surprised- the preceding three summers were much hotter than this has been

I didn't turn mine on. It's broken.
I haven't eaten in a restaurant on my own dime since February or so. I cook everything at home and drink only tap water, tea, or instant coffee. Mostly tap water. A 20 kg bag of rice is cheap and goes a looooong way.
I'm not buying anymore new clothes until I arrive in the USA at the end of the year. My jeans are getting worn out and I'll dispose of them when I leave, along with other old clothing. It'll help keep me under the luggage weight limit when I leave.

I got a vasectomy.
Isn't this thread about awesome ways to save money?
Set up an automatic withdrawal from the account that your pay goes into. Have 1,000,000 takes out the day after payday. Even at the lower end of the ESL pay scale you should be able to save 1,000,000 a month and still live well.
Some of these "ways to save money" you guys are touting, like never going out and/or living a spartan lifestyle I can completely understand and even admire as long as you are talking about as a temporary solution to pay off some debt or to save a down payment for a house or a business. And I know that a lot of people have used their time in Korea to do just that. But come on, life is also to enjoy. For most of us the ESL gig affords us a great economical way to see a new part of the world - we should take advantage of it.
