Really, what will it take for people to learn...

A nine year-old girl in the US has killed her shooting instructor by accident while being shown how to use a high-powered submachine gun.

The instructor was giving the girl a lesson at a shooting range in Arizona when the recoil from the automatic fire caused her to lose control of the Uzi.

Charles Vacca, 39, was shot in the head and died after being airlifted to a hospital in Las Vegas.

The girl was at the shooting range with her parents, who filmed the lesson.

The footage shows the instructor coaching her as she fires a single shot at a target at the Last Stop shooting range in White Hills, Arizona.

The Uzi then appears to be switched to automatic as the girl pulls the trigger and loses her grip of the weapon.

The video, edited and released by the Mojave County Sheriff's office, ends abruptly before the instructor is shot.

The website of the shooting range, called Bullets and Burgers, says children aged eight and older can shoot a weapon if they are accompanied by a parent and an instructor.

Range operator Sam Scarmardo told the Associated Press news agency the rule was industry standard but the range is reviewing its safety procedures.

HA!!! Americans have cultural beliefs that prevent them from seeing how things are...

Humans are clearly not competent to possess guns; not the police, not someone with training, certainly not a little girl (even under supervision). The existence of guns means more people die than if guns did not exist, simple as that. LOL, what a bunch of dumbasses.

maybe in a few years when she's older and the weight of her stupidity and her parents stupidity is firmly on her shoulders she could start the change that is necessary.

oh a blue sky world..

Her stupidity? It wasn't the 9 year olds fault that an adult put an automatic weapon in her hand and told her to fire. Imagine the trauma this child is going through after killing a man.

Meh, "fault" is barking up the wrong tree. Fault is basically saying these people were stupid, but most people are stupid. Which is why humans are not qualified to have guns.

Right. She's not stupid, she's just a typical child, and moreover, a victim of the whole affair from any reasonable perspective. She didn't ask to be born into a society which treats deadly firearms as casual entertainment, but she'll be lucky if she is ever able to realize and fully internalize that none of this was truly her fault.

The issue isn't that she was shooting a firearm. The issue was the type of firearm she was shooting. This was a fully-auto capable submachine gun she was firing. No way she or any child should be shooting it. If you want to take your kids to the firing range and have em get started on a .22, go right ahead. But any child that young should stick to a single shot or bolt action firearm of low caliber if they're preadolescent. Once they're teenagers you can have em step up in caliber and shoot semi-auto firearms. And for goodness sakes, no one under 18 shooting a full-auto capable firearm. That's just common sense. If they are going to shoot it, have it attached to some kind of rig that prevents these kinds of accidents. Or have them shoot a gatling paintball gun or some other concoction like that.

I have fired an Uzi before. It is lighter and has less recoil than other kinds of machine guns. That doesn't mean a 9 year child will be strong enough to hold the weapon steady while firing. Something similar happened a few years ago.

"WESTFIELD, Mass. — An 8-year-old boy died after accidentally shooting himself in the head while firing an Uzi submachine gun under adult supervision at a gun fair."

Another example of why stupid Americans shouldn't be allowed near guns.

Ban guns period.

If humankind were to destroy every gun, every weapon or destructive device in the world, including knives and left handed screwdrivers, Aliens might even come and show us better ways to live in harmony with nature. We could make a world that our grandchildren could call paradise-disneyland where no mass-murders would ever happen again. They could all take happy pills too. Some modified form of X perhaps. Never worry about dangerous weapons or people killing people again. [/sarcasm]

I respect the fact that this little girl only used one bullet to do the job. Most Americans, even the police fire multiple shots to take down someone as if one bullet is not enough to kill a person. Rolling Eyes

Americans are trigger happy and this is what scares me the most when I see them with a firearm.

An Uzi in automatic mode can fire up to 20 rounds a second. I'm not sure if it is clear that the instructor was only hit once.
